I was thinking of buying one and wanted to know whether or not you can do things like DS Download Play.

yes wireless functions work with flashcards . . . that said nintendo shut down their server long ago some games can still be played online (if you want to jump through hoops to set them up on a per game basis) via the save nintendo ds/wii wifi project here on gbatemp
