I just bought a Wii, its running firmware version 4.2. The kid i bought it from attempted to softmod it for backup games, currently BootMii and the homebrew channel are installed. However I’m not sure if he loaded any IOS’s into it. If I turn wii connect back on can I update to 4.3 and have a clean slate to work with?

Take a look at here: http://gbatemp.net/t259469-upgrading-to-4-3
Maybe it will help you out.

thanks for the quick response, i've been looking into bootmii a bit i believe with that i will be able to determine which if any IOS's are installed and go from there

Alright thanks for the info. After looking on this site i found Modwii which i think i'll test when i have some time.

You can always run syscheck to see what IOS are installed on the Wii. It'll put a .csv file (open in a text editor) on your SD's root. If it's all foreign, then just run ModMii answering questions as if its never been softmodded before.
