Hardware Can DuelShock3 controller work without battery?

if i take out the rechargeable battery inside a DuelShock3 controller,

then hook the controller up to the ps3 console via USB cable (wired connection),

do you think the controller will work?



i was thinking of buying a broken DuelShock3 controller that won't power on anymore, and i was wondering if this method will atleast allow the controller to work in wired mode using a USB cable that is tedered to the ps3 console? (the cause of the malfunction in the controller is not known, it could be the circuit board or the battery or anything)

I think the battery still needs to be attached for it to work.
I can test this tomorrow since I have one taken apart. I'll get back to you when this is said and done.

If PS3 is powerful enough to power it, then yeah.
Most consoles have enough power to power stuff. Expect for Wii U.
