Gaming Buying a laptop this weekend. Macpro or PC?

i just liked the fact that its "virus proof"

First of all, it does have a few viruses. Second, you don't want viruses? Then get Linux (Ubuntu) on that PC, even better then a Mac for viruses.

There are zero viruses in the wild capable of infecting Mac OS X.

its not that macs are "virus proof", but that no one bothers making viruses for em. seriously.
when a person makes a virus, they aim for maximum damage. why make a virus that will only affect a small part of the total pc market.

Mac are not virus proof.

anyways macs are expensive and boring, laptops are useless and the same as any standard mac barely upgradeable why a laptop?

waste of money just buy a pc... if u want mac osx u can always run it on the pc as well if u look around there is ways of getting it onto a pc very easily.

!3" Unibody Macbook running bootcamp is pretty good. Runs Fallout 3 on full graphics no lag. Recently upgraded to 4gb of RAM. The battery life is a bitch though, max of 3 hours. I'm just waiting to get a trustworthy 3rd party (or official) battery which lasts longer. Though I have an extra battery which I slip in easily, really easily. Press a button which pops a lid off, take out the battery put in the other one and close the lid. The new trackpad is awesome. Though stick to a PC if you're not sure.

The kind of macbook it is, is the new 13 inch Unibody (Aluminum) not macbook pro. I'm pretty sure it's the Macbook Pro which has the 8 hours. My graphics card is.. umm I forgot which model but it's the new nvidia one lol and it's great

. Run boot camp on it and you're good to go. The 2gb of ram which it has is great though I still put in 4gb myself. Just get another battery (They're cheap, mine from an apple seller was $30 AUD), it's easy to change the batteries as I have said and they are light weight. The battery stuff you might have heard was that it ran on a quarter of the power of a standard 60 watt lightbulb. Pretty much in all the ads and stuff Apple are pushing that it's the greenest macbook ever (battery and such), unibody, awesome led screen which is really good even on the lowest setting, and the graphics.

fallout 3 on max as well as fairly high resolution takes a bit of gfx horsepower behind it to get decent FPS...

Fallout 3 on max with the same screen resolution (1240x something I think it is, can't really remember lol. Is it screen resolution you are talking about anyway or is it high graphics?) with 2gb of RAM ran decently with occasional spikes in lag, though now with 4gb of RAM it runs smoothly.

People are already expecting an announcement of a newer iPhone for sure. It's possible a newer Macbook line up could be on it's way too. Of course, it would also mean Snow Leopard. I'm not sure what the upgrade options are for the Mac PCs.

It's common to see the MacBook line refreshed in WWDC events, even if it is for minor CPU speed bumps, slightly bigger HDs, bundled Snow Leopard, who knows. I would wait a bit more.

Besides there has been much talk of an Apple 10" tablet of some sort (MacBook touch?) with full touch screen support 'a la iPhone'. This rumor came straight from sources at the component supply chain from Quanta and Hon Hai Precision Industry (a.k.a. Foxconn Electronics Inc.). I would say they are highly reliable.

@ the "windoes r teh viruszards" topic, i'm running vista ultimate 64bit, and i go to the more dangerous sites, like torrents and such, and nothing has ever even shown up on my virus scanner. in the time i've owned this laptop, my parents have gotten malware at least twice, and have gotten a bummer virus as well. they are on xp pro sp2. this speaks to me, dunno if it says anything to anyone else.



ah, and more along the lines of mac vs pc, i will always recommend pc, they just work with more things, and they have better games, and i dont see them really being any less reliable than the macs. at school i have multiple classes in a mac lab for graphics and such, and the lab has problems about once a week =/. not to mention my laptop renders the same thing in blender in about 1/6 the time.

Joe88, the same way you (and most people) confuse viruses with trojans, you seem to be confusing the mere concept of security vulnerabilities with actually exploited/exploitable ones. The link I posted before, if you took time to read it, explains it all. Do find the time to read it.

I honestly don't have the time or desire to be dragged to meaningful conversations or flame wars just because someone holds a grudge against a particular computer type. It's just pointless. No hard feelings but my contribution to this topic ends here.

On the other hand I am sure your knowledge of the NDS platform puts me to shame. I would be a fool not to take your advice over NDS matters and I surely will if I have the need.

JJBro1, if you wish you can PM me stating what are your options regarding PC vs. Mac (brand, model, specs, budget and desired OS) and I'll do my best to advise you according to your needs.

I was just presenting the massive amount security flaws that are present in MAC OSX
while everybody who has a mac think they are invincible to anything they may pose a thread to regular PC's
its just pure ignorance on many mac users as well as what people (PC users) have been lead to believe by mac zealots

For gaming, a PC will always be the best option and highly recommended.

However, gaming laptops can seriously run games extremely well and they aren't underpowered as so many seem to think. Some gaming laptops can run Crysis on high settings at 1680 X 1050 with no slow downs as well as being able to run GTA IV at 55 fps.

Some people just want to be able to game where ever they chose to as opposed to being stuck at a desk all of the time. Some people like the option of gaming where they travel, at a friends house or at a hotel etc.

Perhaps some don't realise just how far gaming laptops have evolved.
