Hardware Buying a 3ds outside of USA

I am looking into buying a 3ds on low enough firmware for gateway. It is brand new, but is from canada, and I'm in the USA. I know hey are both NTSC region coded, but my questions is the Eshop stuff. Can I use the American Eshop with American money if the console is Canadian? I know canada doesn't get the same stuff and prices we get in America, so I don't want to be limited and all my payment methods would be American.

Yes you can. The eshop you get depends on your region + nnid settings.
It used to be that you can switch between the two countries (they have separate balance though)
Too bad NNID put an end to that...
