Hey guys I've decided to build a new rig as mine is getting old now and I need some suggestions...

I want a Core i7 920 and NZXT Lexa S for sure, the rest depends on you (echo, echo, echo), well your suggestions anyways, my budget is $1,200 Canadian Dollars, can you guys help me make a good rig?

Case: NZXT Lexa S
CPU: Core i7
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R???
RAM: OCZ Gold 6GB(3 X 2GB)
Video Card: Radeon HD 5850 or HD 4870 X2???
Hard drive:???
DVD Drive:???
Keyboard and Mouse:???

Here is what it is so far... I haven't totaled it yet, so things are subjected to change...Any suggestions are appreciated ( You can change anything you like as long it is 1200 Canada Dollars or so... thanks!)

Definitely the 4870 X2 over a 5850. If you need DX11 however, get the 5850, but bear in mind the 4870 X2 will give you better framerates all round.

5870

more powerful then 2x 4870's
price should be a little lower then the 4870x2

Wow so many fast replies, thanks guys, you may not know it but you are helping alot!

@Lee79, Minox_IX, and codomir
Thanks for the HD suggestions, I don't need a 2TB, I'll either get 500GB or 1TB depending on what the final price is

@guihome
Thanks, I'll probably use that!

@Joe88
Really? I didn't know that, thanks

@Sephi
Lol, I almost forgot the PSU, thanks

Hard drive: Samsung F3 1TB
I'd get a Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB instead.

I've personally had better experience with Samsung drives than with WD. Choosing a dvd drive shouldn't matter too much. Most are relatively inexpensive now and work well.

If you have the cash I'd go with the 5870 like another poster said. DX 11 will become more common.

Caviar blacks and Spinpoint F3's are both recommended, they provide similar performance. there's not much reason to get one over the other unless you really care about the 5 year warranty that the caviar has compared to sammy's 3 year.

+1 on WD black

I recommend this hard drive i've had it for nearly a year and it runs solid just like the day I bought it. You will not regret buying 1 if not 2 of these 1 for your main, 2 for storage.
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...8-395-_-Product forgot to mention if the motherboard doesn't come with sata cables get these. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?...N82E16812119052
seagate is garbage now

and every mobo comes with at least 1 cable

Maybe lower the ram to 4gb since you'll probably will never need 6gb of ram and exchange that 5870 with a 5850.

The X58+Core i7 does triple channel memory, so it'd be 3 GB or 6GB. He can't do dual channel which would be 4GB. I guess he could just stick in 4GB and just run it in single channel, but I don't know how much performance would suffer.

Why cant it dual channel if it has three channels in the chip set cant one just not be used.
