Hey there.. my bluray player is broken, but is it possible for me to still install CFW and a backup manager? Thanks!
Model Specs: PS3 Super Slim- CECH-40xxB

Bluray hacking... Didn't know this was a thing. What kind of benefits does something like this have? I'll look stuff up for you in the meantime. I'm just curious...

You cannot install CFW on 3K+ models. Only ODE will work on 4K units up to 4.65 I believe. Though anything above 4.65 requires a swap disc, which is rendered a bit moot since your blu-ray drive is gone.

In fact, I'm not even sure an ODE would work on a non-functioning drive/board. Probably better off with a different unit.

Oh well...I'll just stick to buying from PSN then.
Thanks for the help though!

Hold on...I just went to google and looked up 4.76 PS3 jailbreak...I got plenty of reliable-looking sites that gave me download links to 4.76 CFW. Are you sure I can't install CFW on my console?

Yes there are 4.76 cfw out there but that is for people who have downgraded to 3.55 or had 3.55 ofw and have since upgraded to cfw. You cannot jailbreak new ultra slim PS3 only ode

Ok, so even if I have a 4.76 OFW, I can't install 4.76 CFW on that system? Crap. What about rebug? Is it the same case that you are upgrading from a previous firmware and you can't go from 4.76 OFW to 4.76 CFW?

Rebug is just another cfw team. I don't exactly know the science behind why you can't but I do know your software kernal has to be 3.55 then upgraded to a cfw there is no other way besides downgrade or an ode mod chip

To put it bluntly, you're screwed out of physical games now.

You cannot install CFW so you're stuck on digital only purchases now.
Edit: And not sure about ODEs. It's called an Optical Drive Emulator for a reason, probably uses some bluray drive keys or something.

My recommendation would be backup all your save files on a USB then sell your PS3 and buy a exploitable 3.55 PS3 Slim (Don't go for FATs unless you want a B/C one)
If you get CFW on the new one, you can "resign" the saves to work on your new system.

It is possible to install CFW without a working BluRay Player, yes.

I did this once and then replaced the blu ray drive,
You can re-marry the bluray player and ps3 using a custom tool to have it working together again.

But your PS3/ Firmware has to support installing an CFW. (Which it does not)

Yes, so this post was completely useless.
