Breaking PSP News

First ever PSP mod "chip"

Today the first ever mod "chip" for the PSP has been announced. The chip, currently going by the name of "Undiluted Platinum (UP)", will apparently act as a flash replacement system for the PSP and will allow any firmware to be loaded onto the console with no restrictions.
This will mean that any PSP can be downgraded and will be able to run homebrew software.

The chip will fit entirely within the PSP unit, and no external modifications will be necessary.

Thanks to MaxConsole for the image.

No further information is available yet, but is expected to arrive some time next week.

Heh, that's pretty cool news for PSP owners. Finally a way to get past that pesky firmware problem they've been having.

Wow, those guys at Sony sure know how to respond quickly when the competition turns things up a notch.

What's the battery life situation on a PSP these days? Has it ever been improved, or do you still need a spare battery to finish a 2hr movie? That would seriously affect my personal response to this modchip news.

Here's what I have been waiting to hear about for a long time. I would DEFINITELY buy games (games that are worth buying that is) if I had one of these since there'd be no more pesky firmware requirements.

Just started thinking... how does this affect the homebrew and game backup bit? Can I backup a 2.5 firmware game and play it with this?

Hmm, is battery life effected any? And, how EXACTLY does it work? Does it just allow you to install any firmware you want, without it saying "Oh noez, you have a higher firmware version"?

Not the thing for me. My soldering skill is shit. In fact, I only just scraped through when I soldered my Viper chip for the GC. I'd hate to imagine what the points look like when I have to solder onto them. Then again, if the price is right and I have a spare PSP, I'll give it a go.

That Dell data breach is worse than people probably realize....

When I worked for Dell we had access to data about military contracts and addresses for high ranking people.

I personally handled a call from the second highest person at Raytheon. That call bothered me a lot... The guy was nice and smart what bothered me was the way management basically just blew him off instead of going the extra mile to help him.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
In the end that call ended up costing Dell millions in lost contracts with Raytheon, and really the issue could have been solved for like 450 bucks lol

sometimes I wonder why anyone would ever buy mega man x legacy collection 2
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
I always thought that capcom shuffled the games in these collection, but apparently they are all in chronological order, which makes legacy collection 2 worthless
