Edit: I'm an idiot and just figured it out. Updating NTR Selector was the answer.

I can't say I'm super knowledgeable about the inner workings of 3ds cfw. I installed Luma on a new 2ds a while ago and never really had any issues. After a several month hiatus I've booted up the DS, and NTR CFW 3.6 gives me the error #FIRMWARE UNKNOWN # DETECTED FIRMWARE 2.56.0
I found another thread with the same issue (from 2017) where updating Luma was all that was needed. Which unfortunately didn't work. I used both the auto update, and a manual update. Currently on 10.0.1-c913de1
I'm not really sure what other info might be needed, but I'd greatly appreciate help figuring it out
