Wiki:
MSX was the name of a standardized home computer architecture in the 1980s. It was a Microsoft-led attempt to create unified standards among hardware makers, conceived by one-time Microsoft Japan executive Kazuhiko Nishi. Despite Microsoft's involvement, MSX-based machines were seldom seen in the United States and Britain, but they were popular in other markets. Eventually 5 million MSX-based units were sold worldwide.

Quote:
The BlueMSX-wii emulator can be started using the homebrew channel. For this purpose, the necessary files (main .dol file, icon.png and meta.xml) are released with this project. The best location for these files will be SD:/apps/bluemsx-wii/.

Except from the main .dol file, the BlueMSX-wii emulator needs some files on the SD-card. Most of the files are embedded in the .dol file and will be placed on your SD-card when the emulator is first run. These files will be placed in the directory SD:/MSX/.
Additional to these files, there needs to be a gamepack. As distributing the rom files gamepack is not 100% legal, these will not be supplied through the google code project.

Easy way to get running:

1)Load the .dol
it will automatically make a MSX folder on your SD Card.

2)Download the Gamepack from here
http://www.wiimsx.com/index.php?option=com...5&Itemid=58

3)Take out card and put Gamepack contents into the new MSX folder on SD

reload and play

Wow, nice, it comes of nowhere heh, I will try it, remember have all the bios placed in MSX folder. I use uMSX it comes with all bios placed in the rom folder. Sadly uMSX doesn't have sound. Good news nonetheless.

The only drawback is the way you have to place games in a xml to get them seen in the emu.
It's not just adding games into a directory, you have to edit a xml and add every game you want to play/see into that xml

The positive note, It's a great emu and you can have multiple games in 1 zip
All games can be zipped to save you some space
wink.gif

Once you get it working and have some nice screenshots of your games, the emu is almost perfect!
biggrin.gif

Here we go on how to:
Put the emu in the apps dir,
\apps\bluemsx-wii

Boot up ur Wii and start the bluemsx emu
- It will now create all needed directories and files
- Remove SD and put games on it in the \MSX\Games map it made
- Edit your XML's to add the games you placed in it (can be zipped)

Example:
first edit the "dirlist.xml" if you made new directories

CODE
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ

Then go into your directory you made (example \MSX1 Games)
and make a xml called "gamelist.xml" like this for all the games in there:

CODE
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ/rom1 1942.zip
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ/rom1 Antartic Adventure.zip
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ/rom1 Arkanoid.zip
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ/rom1 Parodius.zip
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ

If you have screenshots the xml must be like this:
(Screenshots go into a directory "\MSX\MSX1 Games\Screenshots")
(Screenshots go into a directory "\MSX\MSX2 Games\Screenshots") etc...

CODE
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ/rom1 Arkanoid.zip
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂArkanoid1.png
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂArkanoid2.png
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ/rom1 Parodius.zip
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂParodius1.png
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂParodius2.png
ÂÂÂÂ

You can have multipe roms in 1 zip to

Then the xml must be like this:
CODE
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ/machine MSX /rom1 "Dvik & Joyrex Demos.zip" /rom1zip unleashed.rom
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂDvikJoyrex-unleashed-1.png
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂDvikJoyrex-unleashed-2.png
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ/machine MSX /rom1 "Dvik & Joyrex Demos.zip" /rom1zip utopia.rom
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂDvikJoyrex-utopia-1.png
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂDvikJoyrex-utopia-2.png
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ/machine MSX /rom1 "Dvik & Joyrex Demos.zip" /rom1zip waves.rom
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂDvikJoyrex-Waves-1.png
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂDvikJoyrex-Waves-2.png

On MSX2 there has been the original Metal Gear 2.

This title alone is worth installing the emulator.

Someone could give a hand, please

I'm trying to run some MSX2 games, the screenshots that I created show in the emu, but the game refuse to run. I put the rom in .zip

SD:\MSX\Games\MSX2\MetalGear.zip

My xml in my MSX2 folder is

/machine MSX2/rom1 MetalGear.zip

Metal Gear1.png
Metal Gear2.png

/machine MSX2/rom1 MetalGear2-SolidSnake.zip

Metal Gear 2 - Solid Snake1.png
Metal Gear 2 - Solid Snake2.png

EDIT - Nevermind I delete a ''space'' before ''MSX2''. It works now. Keyboard support FTW!

By the way you know how map the keyboard keys on the Wiimote?

So far I have assigned
plus1="f2"
minus1="f3"
buttonY1="f4"

Right forgot to mention that dsk files need another handling
biggrin.gif

instead of "/rom1" it needs "/diskA"
CODE
ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ/diskA AnmaAmusementDisk.zip
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂAnmaAmusementDisk-1.png
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂAnmaAmusementDisk-2.png

ÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ/diskA SyntaxInfinity.zip
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂSyntaxInfinity-1.png
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂSyntaxInfinity-2.png

But yeah Gamepack is easy solution but as far as i know not legal to post a download link here. (Some MSX games still are copyright protected i think)
Thats why the don't include it in the msx emu itself (stated in there readme to)

I use my Wii Classic Controller (has more buttons then the wiimote to use) , Works like a charm.
I used to use the wiimote and had alot of trouble playing some games, since i use the classic controller, most problems are solved
smile.gif

But i see your point, since moving the wiimote to the screen isn't a solution, the virtual keyboard blocks the whole view of the game, just to press F5 on it
biggrin.gif

Haven't tried to map keys, i know some games will need it, like Vampire Killer, you need the F5 to continue if you die, etc...

I played Metal Gear 2 with my Classic controller and i'm so far able to fullfill everything i need todo in the game without remapping buttons.

I used to play alot of msx games on my msx2, but that's been awhile
biggrin.gif
(it's still hooked to my tv)

[EDIT]
Took my USB keyboard i use for Wii typing and on x360, works perfect, way better then a joypad, think i go find my usb extensioncord to hnag on it and play games with the keyboard
smile.gif

You can also operate the whole emulator with the keyboard
smile.gif

If you really wanna use a joypad, use the classic controller, it has alot of F keys already mapped to it

*still on fence about classic controller, waiting for classic controller pro* (hopes) =P

I have a keyboard too, but I suck playing with keyboards (console guy) I supose my bet is wait for another build with GCN controller support, or give up to the keyboard XD.
