Gaming Blue Screen Sims 3

My friends computer keeps showing a blue screen of death everytime he goes to open sims 3. I installed a cracked copy of it bout a year ago and it played fine but then a few weeks back i bought an exp pack from walmart and it did ok for awhile but now its started to give the blue screen everytime he clicks on sims 3.

Could it be where the sims 3 and the exp aint both legit copys? Or maybe just something else?

I would test the RAM and Video card.

I had a stick of RAM go bad a while back (Corsair's Lifetime Warranty rocks!) and got frequent blue screens because of it.
Also had a video card that was dying and giving me lots of artifacts and an occasional blue screen.
Beyond that, and one horrible application, I haven't had a BSOD since Windows XP first came out.
