I'm wondering if there is a list of DNS domains and IPs that we can block to prevent the switch from contacting Nintendo?

So reports get sent to a local IP (my pihole in this instance)

I don't care for online play, BUT I want to use homebrew stuff like the appstore etc...

If I can block the correct ips on the network I won't have to worry about other people accidentally making the switch dial home either.

Why don't you download Simple DNS and then set it to inspect log mode. Power on your switch you'll know exactly what the Switch tries to look up.

Or wireshark, fliddler and report your findings then tell us if every game is consistent? Performing the same look ups, request for either an update, patch, error report, going online etc.

I was hoping there was a list pre compiled, but if that's the case I'll have to learn some new things (which is fine)

Is there a way I can connect the switch to think it's online but prevent anything from reaching the internet?

I've never used wireshark if I'm being honest so it'll literally be learning to walk before I jump.

Well if you use Simple DNS it'll use the coimputer Simple dns is installed on to do the look ups then you'll have a log of all the Name entries.
You would want your computer to not be able to resolve things but much rather just lookup everything to a broken DNS server.

The switch will verify if your internet is working and say cannot ping past the internet stage ignore that and let it cancel out do not cancel it yourself. Then restart the switch next round it'll show the wireless signal on.

You can look at all the logs from then on.

Or do it hardware level connect it all up then shut down the DNS server on your Router to a wrong ip address that cannot do look ups such as loop back address or just local subnet coimputers.

Nowadays with all the hacks requiring website or internet to inject scripts/payload on it would be wise to know your network 101s

There you go then, there's a list already but still do a check if not already done so to see if anything has changed. Also trying out different games made with different SDK versions etc to see if they have updated or altered the list. Maybe it got mentioned in the forum but best to double/triple check with things like these.

Will do, I think you are correct it's a good thing to check and I'm always willing to learn new things so it's an excellent start

Why did not anyone use that to know what is likely to ban us?

Well I'm able to use the switch appstore and everything else and the main Nintendo URLs are blocked via pihole

@SylverReZ, atleast wiimmfii went fine although people only use it for Mario kart Wii

At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

    not really

It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.

RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    Brb
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament

maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
