I'm trying to run The Warriors from a retail DVD. According to the compatibility list it's an official PS2 Classic. But when I launch it from the XMB it just goes to a black screen and the controller turns off though the PS3 power indicator stays green. I have to manually power off the system.

I'm using composite cables on a CRT TV and the PS/PS2 Upscaler is set to off.

CECHA01
Rebug CFW
Multiman
All installed with the most up-to-date info I could find and the most recent software.

Is there's something I'm missing? I saw something about a "PS2 placeholder" PKG, but is it needed for retail discs as well?

EDIT:
I found the solution.

You have to install REBUG TOOLBOX from here:
https://rebug.me/downloads/

Then launch it and set "Toggle COBRA Mode" to "Enabled".
Exit and reboot the system.

This was the only change I made and now it works. :)
