Hacking Best Way to Mod Any Wii: ModMii for Windows: Official Support Thread

I used ModMii for Windows on my Wii Black version 4.2U, that have a wiikey fusion chip with the options:
* Wii is currently a virgin (un-modified)
* Current firmware is 4.2U
* Desired firmware is 4.2U
* Download Photo Channel
* Download Internet Channel
* Download Weather Channel
* Download News Channel
* Download Mii Channel
* Download Shopping Channel (and IOS56)
* Download Wii Speak Channel
* Download Extra Brick Protection
* Update active IOSs (can be disabled in options)
* Do not Install a cMIOS (can be enabled in Options)
* External Hard Drive to be Formatted as FAT32
* Download Configurable USB-Loader and WiiFlow
* USB-Loader Settings and config files saved to USB Hard Drive

everything worked fine, but now when i try to run a game with configurable USB Loader or even WiiFlow, it gives me the error "An error Has Occurred. Press the Eject Button, remove the Game Disc, and turn off the power to the console. Please read the Wii Operations Manual for further instructions."

I tried to change the ios in Configurable USB-Loader, tried with 222-mload, 222-yal, 223-mload, 223-yal and 249, its funny that when i used 249 it says "IOS(249) IOS Reload: Blocked Loading..........." before giving the error, dunno if it should be like that.

I tried to update Configurable USB-Loader to version 70b2(beta) too, what am I doing wrong?
I don't think its the external HD, as it's being able to load the apps from there (I'm not using the SD Card)

Any game or some specific? Can you check what do you for Anti 002 fix in Cfg Usb Loader? Try setting it to anti (if not already) and try again!

I found out what was the problem, lol T_T
My wiikey fusion was probably blocking something, cause when I put the SD card on the wiikey fusion, the Configurable USB-Loader started working again =)
So, if anyone else with the same conf as me have the same problem, remember, you need to let the SD card inside fusion, even if you're not using it at all.

Also, sometimes it may appear that ModMii has frozen, but it could just be that ninty servers are being overloaded or your internet is slow. So don't rush to run unfreezemii.bat if u don't have to. I would say run the unfreezemii.bat only if u haven't seen your screen change in over 5 minutes.

Hey man. Bought a black console at the weekend and I'm in the process of softmodding it via your "how to" tutorial. It's my first attempt at modding anything so I was/am taking things slooooooowly!!

Anthoo... It was all going swimmingly until it got to "downloading 28 of 32: cIOS250[57]-d2x-v6"

It says to run UnfreezeMii.bat if there's any long inactivity. Being a patient man, I waited... And waited... I've read through the Readme file for hints, eventually used my old friend Google and got a link to this thread and your post.

The problem I'm having is that when I select Run and type UnfreezeMii.bat Windows can't find a file by that name. I do a Search for it and it's right there - 1kb file on my Desktop... I doubleclick on it, or even right click and "Open" the file but all that happens is a flash of a black DOS box and.... nothing!!

Currently stuck at "0000000d wrote at 1746176" for over an hour.

Apologies if this problem's been covered somewhere else on the forum but as I'm stuck right in the middle of it right now, I thought it quicker to just ask first.

Check in Windows Task Manager if there is a program called nusd.exe running. If there is, terminate it. Restart ModMii, choose same as you did before and it should skip all the existing valid files, it's almost like restarting the download from where it stopped.

Thanks for getting back to me. Checked Task Manager - nusd.exe wasn't/isn't running. Can I just go ahead and stop the ModMii and restart as you said above?

Also - as an afterthought... Am I better off downgrading to a lower version or am I better off having a modded 4.3 firmware? I don't have any of the listed games required for 4.3 (yet) but is Bannerbomb still effective for 4.2 and lower? Once I have the SD card loaded up, I'll be happy for the moment and worry about games at a later date

Yes, you can quit and start over. Anything ModMii downloaded on your first try will be verified and skipped, so it will go a lot faster the 2nd time around

The only real difference is that 4.2 and above kill region free from the SM. This is normally not an issue unless you get a semi brick and have to do BS to try to fix it.

The only other thing is that 4.2 and above give the 003 error, but ModMii puts you in the stance that it will not happen to you.

No matter what, always have a nand backup and keep it in a safe place.

I know JoostinOnline hates 4.2 and 4.3 because of the above mentioned short falls, but I personally have not ever had any issues as long as I did things correctly. Basically, just use ModMii and follow EVERY step and you will be fine.

Eh, you should be okay on 4.3 as long as your brother in law doesn't do something stupid like installing corrupt IOS's. I just have a problem with people suggesting an update to 4.2/4.3.

The extra brick protection is in case of an accidental up/downgrade. IOS60 is patched into multiple slots (used by other SystemMenus) so that they are not over written by updates of anykind. This is referred to as extra brick protection.

Everything runs from an IOS; this includes Netflix, SystemMenu,Shop Channel, etc. Basically any channel installed uses one; so just updating the IOS required for that particular channel will be sufficent enough to use it regardless of which SYSmenu you are using.

Most people consider the disadvantages to be negligible because the big ones are worked around with hacks, but it's not like you are getting anything good out of being on 4.3.

It's safe to downgrade. First, replace SD:\bootmii\ppcboot.elf with the one attached here and make a new NAND backup.
