Is there any way to trigger the Sd update without a express card and a switch one SD card with screenshots? Is there any way to get the switch screenshot/ videos in a normal SD card to trigger the update?

Didn't ask me to update for the express SD card, although it might have done it automatically since I put it in since the very start. Reads it as an express.
No Chance here… sd express requires Update By putting in to use. Also Reset with Card inside does not work… always Update no Card recognized

19.0.0

I don't mind waiting a long time. If anything I can just buy another at a later point if I decide to bite the bullet. For now, other than curiosity over Donkey Kong, and some limited desire to play Mario Kart, there is nothing on the system to sway me over.

Duskbloods might change my mind eventually - but not yet, and not before I know more about it.

Guess we have our answer. Probably best to go ahead and download Day 1 update, before any further updates are released, and then leave offline.
That's interesting. Have one that arrived and already did Day1+ExpressMC updates and now offline (couldn't find any free demos on store though). Also have a second one that was planning to not update, but now not sure. Really should update both?

I read somewhere, that the normal sd card needs to be formatted to exFAT.

I tried that and it worked for me (but I also updated to fw 20 before)
So the steps were:
Format normal SD Card to exFAT
put into Switch 1
make some screenshots.
Put into Switch 2
follow the Instructions to copy the pictures from SD to internal.
Somewhere it will prompt you to update.

Appears the system does have a simple ROP exploit which isn't exactly useful but a nice thing to note. Switch 1 firmware had lots of exploits like this too but they've pretty much been completely ignored since there's not an actual kernel exploit that can increase permission levels.

There is an update you can trigger using an exFAT regular microSD.

But we don’t know if it’s the same update that enables microSD Express cards.

i updated to 20.1.1, linked account and enabled micro sd express card. i go airplane mode and maybe buy some cartridges like mario world to play offline.

I got mine updated to the day 1 update last night just to install the couple legit games I owned on my Switch 1 and then put everything in airplane mode and forgot my wifi networks.

I may try to do this SD Card trick tonight because I would love for that to be active, but also really not ready to spend another hefty investment on an "express" sd card after Nintendo already extorted me once this week unexpectedly.

I am not sure its same for me i used a normal SD card and it was exFAT empty card because dont have switch 1 and it did not work so i ordered last night micro Express and worked i dont think at all that normal sd work my Switch 2 said normal SD dont work put express in it so i think all people that say it work it is bullshit

Thanks, unfortunately I don't have a switch one to create the screenshot :(

To trigger the update using a regular microSD card, you need to create a folder structure as if it's a Switch 1 card (basically have a picture inside a folder like, for example, Nintendo\Album\2023\06\10\whatever.jpg), then go to settings > data management > transfer pictures from Switch 1, and then insert the microSD into the Switch 2.

For me, it said an update was required to use that micro SD card, and then it installed said update.

Please see what I just said in this post

This has already been discussed.

Bad Update took almost 20 years to be implemented. By security standards that's un-hackable.
Many reverse engineers would say that software and maybe hardware is exploitable as long as there is motivation for it, or something along the lines.

The Xbox 360 had JTAG, disc drive CFW and eventually RHG (JTAG) well within their console lifespan, why would there be any motivation to research anything else? Similarly to the SW1, it seems to me existing entrypoint provides good enough access to allow homebrew. I would ask myself, if I was one, why would I be motivated to find something else?

We all can agree that console exploitation has become exponentially more difficult, so it's reasonable ask people to tame their expectation. I don't underestimate the motivation of a RE and developer's or console makers making mistakes. Another interesting question or concern to have is, whoever find and exploit the SW2, will they report it to Nintendo and collect a bounty or will they release it to the hyenas to have a it?

Tried it, it just copied the files from sd card and wanted to restart. No mention of an update or whatsoever.
