Which emulator is the best, at present, for playing N64 roms?

find the beta version (latest version), if you have a old xbox get sureal64 beta 5.

anyway, if you stumble upon project64 1.7.0.55 that's a total fake, use official 1.6 instead

what's the major difference between 1.7.0.49 and 1.6? What games run better on the newer one? and one more question, what are the optimal settings(and/or plugins to get) to play Mario Kart 64(primary game I play).
