So I just downgraded my phat psp using pandora's battery and all that jazz, now I need to put a custom firmware on it. I'm a total noob at this (thank God making the battery was simple) and I don't know anything about the psp homebrew scene, which firmware should I get?

Edit: And where's the best place to buy memory sticks and what size do you recommend?

Well I had been on 3.4 Oe-A for the longest time and it was absolutely solid but I suppose I am never one to leave something alone and I recently updated it to 3.9m33-2 and it has been running great as well. I would definitely recommend that but since I am assuming you are on 1.50 you cannot just upgrade directly to that. I believe you can go from 3.52 m33 to 3.9m33 (route I took) so you will have to do a bit of updating. It's definitely worth it though.

I bought my 4gb memory stick from ebay and was lucky enough to get a genuine sandisk one for a nice cheap price. Anyways I would definitely recommend a 4 gb as they are quite cheap as well.

I purchased 2 2GB Sandisk Gaming cards for $20 each on sale. They work excellent and are pretty fast.

No, you dont need the official Sony Brand. There isnt much difference in speed between the two brands..

Be sure to compress your ISO's into CSO before placing them on your mem card. This can save you tons of space. On a 2GB card, I can usually fit 3 games and some other stuff.

I am currently running 3.71 M33-4 and it is great. I am about to upgrade to 3.90 M33-2 like Haaris did. The new one has skype and Go Messenger so that is awesome.

Dont worry about losing the 1.5 kernel, cause the 3.90M33-2 update has an optional update of 1.5.... something like that.

Check out Dark Alex's site....

Hope this helps.

Aha thanks. I just upgraded to the latest

I'm just wondering aswell, once I upgrade is it ok to format my memory stick? And if I buy a new one do I have to go through this whole process again or can I just put games on there and go?

I would find that method, the first you attempt to do. Since the network update coding isn't 100% so there will be errors when doing a system update via wifi.
