The installer installs on both 249 and 250 at the same time with the same base. It's not like the Hermes installer where you can choose the cIOS and the base. So the guide is basically tell you how to install 249 base 57 and 250 base 38. In order to do that you have to first install 249 and 250 base 57, extract the 249 base 57 as WAD, delete both 249 and 250, install 249 and 250 base 38, delete only 249, and then install the WAD of 249 base 57.

If you updated via Nintendo to 4.2U you have a stub cIOS249 you will have to delete it with AnyTitleDeleter before you can install a cIOS but make sure your trucha pache your IOS 36 prior to cIOS installation.

I updated to 4.2J via Nintendo. Then softmodded (not trucha). Then I did this:

Hey, perhaps I did something wrong (don't think so...) but using Wad Installer 1.5 with IOS 250 does not give me the Nand option, and is essentially the same as if i had simply used ios 36 to install my wads, ie installs without a problem but without Nand option. Should this be the case, or have I messed up a step in the install guide? What is the advantage of using the newly installed ios 250 over just using ios 36?

I'm very worried because there's a lot of stuff i couldn't do when i was following the guide. I even deleted all folders and Unrar'd them again to my sd card and i think it got worse. When I launch cIOSX Installer rev 19, there's no IOS249 to choose. I selected IOS36 even if i didn't know if i have any cIOS installed yet.

When I launch blue dump alpha 3, i cant go to system titles to back up the IOS249, it just says in the same screen: "ISFS - OPEN for /title/000000001 Failed -102"

If anyone can help out with this issue, I will greatly appreciated.

I followed the instructions in the OP but now whenever I use Hermes' cIOSs my games tend to hang up. In the sens that the game still plays, animations still carry out but my wii remote no longer operates the game. When I loaded Brawl+ with 222,223 & 224 I went to the music page (I have custom sounds on my sd card) and the cursor stopped moving and then the custom sound stopped playing but the cursor was still animated... I just couldn't move it. I'm not sure Configurable USB Loader is to blame... or is it?

I didn't get this problem with Waninkoko's 249. But Monster Hunter Tri is only playable apparently with Hermes' 223... even though it's still risky because it freezes! What's going on? I did everything in the first post!

Tantric said his latest emulators FCEU GX and SNES9X GX work the best with 202/57. So take it or leave it but that's what the man said. Just giving everyone that plays with emu's a heads up.

it will be a very small difference. probably not even noticeable. those emulators only read and write to/from the usb drive when you initially load a game and whan you save screen shots and stuff. while youre actually playing the game, there is nothing happening with the usb drive, so it doesnt matter what IOS base you used.

and since the files involved are so incredible small, they can all be read & written in less that a second. the emulators should not be your deciding factor as to what base you use for anything.


you might actually see a difference with apps that use IOS202 and deal with big files like wiimc & wiixplorer. to be sure, do a pepsi challenge. install 202 one way, copy the same file from a sd card to a usb drive and back again 10 times and average the times. then change the base used in IOS202 and repeat the test..

I followed this up until Hermes 202[60], where the installer hangs indefinitely.

I've tried letting it run from the network, I've tried placing the files manually with NUSD and I've tried running the Hermes installer using 250r19[38], 249r19[57] and 223v4[37/38]. It hangs on install no matter what. Any ideas?

My USB Loader GX forwarder takes MUCH longer to load the app now, then it crashes consistently about 10 seconds in the gui.

This setup looked nice on paper but it sure seems to be causing more problems than it's solving. Can anyone confirm r929 of USB Loader GX is still having problems with Hermes v5?

Switching to r297 didn't fix anything, and now Blue dump is giving me code dumps.

Maybe I'm just missing something, but so far the compatibility with this setup is so bad that I'm forced to actually use my nand backup for the first time. What a waste of effort.

Since many Newbies are confused which cIOS they should install, especially what base IOS they should use for both, Hermes and Waninkokos cIOS, I decided to make a declaration . All Newbies should stop asking same questions again and again and do exactly what I am saying here.

The goal is to install following IOS(cIOS):

IOS202[60]-v65535 (v5 of Hermes cIOS) = USB2.0 for MPlayer, WiiXplorer and stuff
IOS222[38]-v65535 (v5 of Hermes cIOS) = Stable IOS with the ability to install Wads
IOS223[37]-v65535 (v5 of Hermes cIOS) = For use with Music Games with USB devices like Rock Band, Guitar Hero...
IOS224[57]-v65535 (v5 of Hermes cIOS) = Better speed for USB loading. However, some Games might not work

IOS249[57]-v19 (rev19 of Waninkokos cIOS) = Recommend by Waninkoko. Improves speed for USB loading. However, some Games might not work.
IOS250[38]-v65535 (rev19 of Waninkokos cIOS) = Stable IOS with the ability to install Wads

What do we need?
- Hermes cIOS Installer v5
- Waninkokos cIOS Installer rev19
- BlueDump Alpha 3
- Wad Manager
- AnyTitle Deleter Mod

If you dont have installed any cIOS yet, follow any hacking guide to trucha patch your IOS36.

We are going to install Waninkokos cIOS first.

1) Launch cIOSX Installer rev19 via the Homebrew Channel
2) Choose IOS249 (or your trucha patched IOS36 if you dont have any cIOS installed yet)
3) The Installer will ask you what base IOS you would like to choose. Choose IOS57 and let the Installer finish the job. If you dont have a Internet Connection, download a IOS57-64-v5661.wad via NUS Downloader and put it in the Root directory of your SD Card.

4) Now launch BlueDump Alpha3 via the Homebrew Channel
5) Go and find IOS249 in the System Titles and pack it to a Wad

6) Move your IOS249[57] Wad to your Wad directory

7) Now launch AnyTitle Deleter Mod via the Homebrew Channel
8) Go to System Titles and delete both, IOS249 and IOS250

9) Now launch cIOSX Installer rev19 via the Homebrew Channel
10) Choose IOS36
11) The Installer will ask you what base IOS you would like to choose. This time, choose IOS38 and let the Installer finish the job. If you dont have a Internet Connection, download a IOS38-64-v3867.wad via NUS Downloader and put it in the Root directory of your SD Card.

12) Lauch AnyTitle Deleter Mod and delete your IOS249.

13) Lauch Wad Manager via the Homebrew Channel.

Now we have IOS249[57] for USB loading and IOS250[38] for Wad Manager.



We still have to install Hermes awesome cIOS.

1) Lauch Hermes cIOS Installer v5 via the Homebrew Channel
2) Choose IOS250 when the screen asks you which cIOS you want to use.
3) Now install

a) IOS202 with IOS60 base
b) IOS222 with IOS38 base
c) IOS223 with IOS37 base
d) IOS224 with IOS57 base

Just a quick question: I would like to run "Monster Hunter Tri" (PAL) on USB Loader GX (latest) but I'm getting the black-screen-and-"beep"-sound-freezing issue.

I've heard that the solution is to install cIOSX rev19 with IOS 37 as base.
However, I've followed this guide, so now I have rev19 installed with IOS57, right?

Since I'm a noob, I tried re-installing rev19 with an IOS37 wad as base IOS, and I got a -ret error.

Is there anyway for me to get MH3 working with the setup in this guide?

Thanks for your help KiiWii. What you proposed worked! I dumped IOS249[37] and now I switch between that and IOS249[57] using the wad manager when I want to play MHT. I also got to the wad manager to work again using IOS250[38], like you and this guide said.

Anyway, now I'm back to another problem. Most of the time my USB Loader GX is buggy and freezes when I try browsing through the games. I've got the latest updated version installed and tried an older one with rev19 support, but the problem persists. I think it has something to do with the newest update having problems with the FAT/NTFS formats.

Do you by any chance know what version of USB Loader GX works best with cIOS rev19?

EDIT-> Nevermind, I simply installed an older version of USB Loader GX and it works smoothly now!

yea anyways i need help i wanna play mh3 but when i load it, a black screen with a beeping sound comes up as soon as i hit new game. how do i get around this?

i have iso249(rev 14 ) and i have neogamma r8 final . i used the trucha bug to patch as iso base 36 and i play the games on disc (not usb).

i heard that u need waninkoko's rev 19 and iso 37 as base.

i understand everything up untill the iso base 37 part.

my wii is connected to the internet to install the ciosx (i prefer to use the via internet option rather than the wad )

do i have to patch iso37 using the trucha bug or something?

If you still want to follow this guide and be able to play MHT, just dump 249[57] and 249[37] so that you can switch between them using wads in the wad manager. KiiWii proposed that, and it works great for me.

Here we go:

B4 you perform the following steps, you need to have IOS15-64-v257.wad and IOS15-64-v266.wad and IOS36-64-v3094.wad on the root of your sd card.

DOWNGRADE IOS15:
Start Trucha Bug Restorer (Launch with Homebrew Channel).
Press B to continue without IOS reload (ios at the top can be left as default)
After a few seconds you will get a message that says Press 1 to start the application. At that time press 1
Go to Downgrade IOS15 and press A.
When you see...
Press A.
When you see...
Press A.
After prepration...
Press A for Step 1
Press A for Step 2
Press Any button to exit the application.

PATCH IOS36:
Start Trucha Bug Restorer again.
Select which IOS to Load (Change to IOS15) and Press A.
Again after a few seconds you will get a message that says Press 1 to start the application. At that time press 1
Go to IOS36 menu and Press A.
Make sure you select the below settings...
Install IOS to Slot: 36
patch hash check (trucha): YES

8) Go to System Titles and delete both, IOS249 and IOS250

9) Now launch cIOSX Installer rev19 via the Homebrew Channel
10) Choose IOS36
11) The Installer will ask you what base IOS you would like to choose. This time, choose IOS38 and let the Installer finish the job. If you dont have a Internet Connection, download a IOS38-64-v3867.wad via NUS Downloader and put it in the Root directory of your SD Card.

12) Lauch AnyTitle Deleter Mod and delete your IOS249.

13) Lauch Wad Manager via the Homebrew Channel.
14) Choose IOS250 and ignore the NAND emulation stuff. Browse through your Wad directory and install your dumped IOS249[57]-v19.wad.

Now we have IOS249[57] for USB loading and IOS250[38] for Wad Manager.

Would these instructions be different if you installed Waninkokos cIOS to IOS37 because that was your first cIOS? Or is the pack wad option hiding somewhere else?

I'm at the BlueDump step #4 and I don't see a pack wad option for ISO249, only option is to backup savedata. Gave me a shock since I thoughtlessly pressed A too quickly and it froze at backing up savedata. Luckily, things seem fine after restarting the Wii.

The directions after BlueDump regarding IOS249 and IOS37, would they be any different?


Also, just to be sure about BlueDump, I'm suppose to press A at System Titles, scroll down to IOS249 (or whatever it is), and then press 1 button? There I only see Backup Savedata option. If there was a pack wad option, then I press A? And that's it, nothing else, so I just shut off my Wii, move the ISO Wad to the Wad directory from my computer in my SD card (assuming the Wad ISO is saved to the SD card somewhere), and go on?

Sorry, I'm a bit new to this and I've never used BlueDump before, so I'm just going by the directions I see, but I could be very wrong.

You are not supposed to install Wanin's CIOS replacing 36 or 38, you are supposed to install the CIOS on a blank slot but it uses the functions of 36/38 along with all of the custom code work. The best blank slots to use are in the 200 series assuming Nintendo releases IOS's in a numerical order of whole numbers, Nintendo will most likely not be able to release IOS's in the 200 series.

In order to do some homebrew loading, you have to patch either 36 or 38 with the trucha bug. I believe this allows for fake signing code such as CIOS installers to allow them to run. If you installed a custom IOS over 36/38, when the wii tries using IOS 36 or 38 it may ultimately brick your wii given the wii may not know how to use the IOS.

If you followed the guide right, everything should follow through naturally.
