Yes, but from what I understand (again) they're going with this design to make it so that you could use it as buttons as well when it's in portrait mode

How are they bad vertically? SP has vertical button layouts and it did just fine compared to normal gba.

What I'm saying is you could use the circle pad for direction and the d pad for buttons if it's oriented vertically

Heck no, I just like having options. For instance, I bought the Limited Edition Wind Waker Wii U to use as my main console because it looks so badass
