consider this

the mind is a machine

machines follow rules

you don't expect your computer to make a free decision, do you?

your computer decides what it will do based on an algorithm and the data

in a computer, if all variables are the same, the algorithm should always spit out the same result, right?

The human mind, as a complex organic computer, is the same way

as such you do not actually have the capability of making any decisions - everything is in a sense, determined by the circumstance, initial variables, the algorithm etc
cunt cunt cunt

explain that?

such is the mind of cranesbill

all of the input data led to that output
Why not look it this way?

Free will is not the ability to control the world around you, it’s your ability to control how you respond to the world around you

Sure, events led up to this, but there are infinite possibilities to what I can do, like I legit considered saying the N word to prove a point, but I chose not to, but that was my free will to decide on, like how you chose free will to watch that Scientology video for no reason

Are we limited to what we do because of our beliefs? Maybe, but that's just an unconscious habit where it thinks it does that, we can do whatever because nothing is stopping us and we're not slaves to what we're told to do, but some don't rebel or don't mind because there's value to those beliefs, like religion or good mornings

"but there are infinite possibilities to what I can do."

This is the point I disagree with

I believe that if every variable was known prior to your decision, then your decision could be predicted

as such, there is only one possibility of what you would actually say - and no free will involved

But I didn't know the cause, infinite possibilities for what I can reply with

Even if you wanna know every decision that can be reasonably made, you have to account for the factor that every human is complexly different in thought and emotion, which makes infinite possibilities. Everyone here (especially you) is influenced by countless factors, including subconscious motivations and social dynamics.

it seems as if there are countless possibilities

because the number of variables is so large

so in effect, human actions seem to be free

but appearances aren't always as they seem. The truth is, all of those variables converge on one possibility - so in effect there is no choice, although there seems to be a choice

consider how the earth appears to stand still, and the sun flies above us - but in reality - we are moving in relation to the sun

So because everyone has free will, means there's no free will??

It's like that one scene from The Incredibles?

In The Incredibles (2004), Syndrome says ...and when everyone's super, no one will be. This foreshadowed the current MCU, where several dozen people can now do what Captain America and Iron Man

But what about the butterfly effect where minor variations can result in significant differences over time? Thus, even if we could identify many variables, the outcomes may not converge on one possibility

yes of course very small minor things could lead to a snowball/butterfly effect down the line

but there is only one reality, so...it's not like we will experience the effects of what could have happened had such small things not occurred

but anyhow, still this means no one has free will

But if there were an infinite universe, then free will does exist because anything that can happen, has happened?

That doesn't sound right, I can decide on whatever, but I can't technically becuase only 1 outcome can theoretically happen because that's the one I picked????

infinite does not mean what you think it means

consider this

in an infinite universe, at the end of infinity, everything should happen

but you can never reach infinity, and you can also never approach infinity

after a trillion trillion years, you really aren't closer to infinity than now

so in some special case where you could teleport to infinity, you could say everything can happen - but this actually isn't possible

the funny thing about infinity is it means, over infinite time everything is possible, but it doesn't mean it will actually happen

Because infinite is still growing

Because infinite is still growing
infinity is a number that by definition is unreachable

the universe as we understand it is finite - it started expanding at the time of the big bang and continues to expand

as far as we know, it should continue to expand

but that doesn't mean it's infinite NOW

at infinite time you can call it infinite, but we will never reach infinite time (that's sort of the definition)

Eh I always imagine it as baking raisin bread, when you bake it, it expands, but nothing gets added, just that everything is more spaced out, so theoretically the Universe could have stopped, but we wouldn’t know since it’s big like your mom’s ass (free will 🤭)

you are correct that more matter is not added as the universe expands

but this really doesn't have anything to do with what we were talking about or the fact that the universe isn't infinite

but nice ad hominem I guess

you've basically deflected every question or answer I've given you
