I have a question concerning backup and retail games on the Wii. Now, I have pretty much always burned my games on the Wii. I very rarely buy games, but I was going to buy Metroid: Other M until I thought of this;

I have a Wii with Wiikey 1 with 3.2E firmware. Is there a difference between a backup of a game and a retail version? Some games have AP portections, and I was wondering if I would have problems booting a retail game like I sometimes do with backups (with all AP and that stuff)?

That's what I thought, but I figured that a backup is basically a copy of the original, so there should be all the same content on both discs. Thanks.

Yes, if you have a Wiikey 1, be sure to install at least Wiikey firmware 1.9s

Original Dual layered disc works only starting with this version.
1.9s or v1.99beta

With 1.9g, only burned dual layered disc are working.

If you want to keep your 3.2E system menu for your Wii, there are few things to follow :
1- if you have priiloader : set hack to not update from game partition

2 - then if you don't have the requiered IOS :
* use GeckoOS to boot the game, it will ask you to install the required IOS if you don't already have it installed.
OR
* Use Dop-Mii, or Wiiinstall to install the required IOS
Then you can boot it usually from the Disc channel.

3- if you don't have priiloader, you can also run the original disc using an USB backup launcher (like neogamma, or USBloaderGX), they have a "launch disc" option.
But with that launching method, the game could be triggering its antipiracy protection.
The best way is to launch it using the disc channel, with priiloader hack "game partition update disabled", or use GeckoOS.

I forgot to mention that I'm on Wiikey 1.9s.

"With 1.9g, only burned dual layered disc are working."

That's not true. I have a backup of SSBB and it works flawlessly.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that I ALWAYS launch my backup games trough Gecko OS.

YES, that's exactly what I said.

Backup is working on : 1.9g, 1.9s, 1.99
Original is working only on : 1.9s, 1.99
You can't run ORIGINAL (not a backup) on 1.9g

You are already on 1.9s, so don't worry, all is working.

Oh, I see. Sorry I'm not up to date with these things, so thanks for helping.
