Cool performance indeed forsaekn, but...if i well understood your going to wait for the gamma to be released to release then your cSM ?? Well, i can't do nothing but respect your decency, i do have a great respect for WIIgator and Waninkoko 's work, but will your cSM be the ultimate form of backup loading ? i mean will we need in its final release to install other cIOS agan and again as Nintendo is releasing more and more secured IOS ? and more than you, Wiigator and Waninkoko walking hand in hand, it will be epic if you could work with coders which are working on BOOTMII, well, you already got a lot of work, an besides you have a social life...but then you wouldn't only create the first very Custom Firmware, but you would have created an OS itself !!!
Technically the wii's OS or "firmware" is split into two parts The IOS is one and is sort of the "backend" for the firmware and the system menu is the second and is the "frontend" to the firmware, to put it simply.

In order to have "custom firmware" for the wii, both of these parts must be modified. At the moment, we only have as a scene a custom IOS, which is great. But We've been lacking the second half, which is what my cSM is. Hand in hand cIOS and cSM together make a complete "custom firmware" solution.

Waninkoko / Wiigator do a great job keeping the cIOS updated...they are constantly making it better and they deserve a lot of praise. Even if Nintendo started releasing games that required a higher IOS to function, they could with ease move their modifications from being based off IOS36 to IOS51 for example, etc.

The compatibility is that of the wii. the games load using the wii's apploading functions and not wiigator's, so it has the best compatibility by far. The only other variables that will affect game compatibility are the dvd reading functions of the di module in cIOS...ie, as the cIOS gets better, so does game compaitibilty.

And yes, a good chance of bricking. Say you installed the cSM without IOS 251 installed prior, its backend, you would be bricked. or say you accidently delete IOS251 with anytitle deleter with cSM installed, you would be bricked. You can say if you did something absolutely stupid, you would brick your wii.

It also has crossed my mind to wait until BootMii is released....I can't really decide. Part of me doesnt want to hold the release back just because some people might not understand the installation process and brick themselves. but the other part says i should play it safe.

Ive made all these modifications myself without bricking my wii, and im the developer lol. cSM won't brick you, being stupid will.

i had mentiond that i thought a custom firmware would do some real good in our quest
so is that what we have to look forward with the release or is this in futer project?

There will be a release, definently after wiigator releases his launcher gamma (its not my intention to steal his thunder, he deserves every drop), and possibly after BootMii is released, but i can't decide on that. BootMii could take forever, and i don't like waiting that long.

This isnt a future project or a cool idea, it is a reality. Runs great on my wii, my roomates enjoy it thoroughly.

People tend to jump into this feet first and not check a lot of things and even skip install steps when doing it.
Id say wait for now if it can brick the wii or make sure someone has a gamegube remote handy before they do anything - everyone wants the best system but the lashback from people bricking wii's will be sour if the noobs try it and fail
