I think it speaks well to his character that he's not jumping at the chance for a little internet fame by releasing a product that would make stupid people cry.
Possibly down the line (far far in the future) when I get more efficient at visually modifying the menu, I may implement a homebrew loading menu similar to that of the HBC, accessible right from the main channel page (probly a tab or something). Its on the list.nicksasa said:so games will be reading at 6x ? cause it uses the wii disc channel
the di module is what is actually limited to 3x. If the original DI commands were kept (which could only be used on legitimate pressed discs btw), then retail games could read at 6x. the di module in cIOS works some *magic* and makes changes to these functions to make use of the dvd-rom functions left in the wii during development, which (with some wanin/wiigator voodoo)allow nonpressed (backups) to run. These functions are limited to 3x by a hardware register for the dvd drive, and is related to Starlet.
Long story short, as long as this register is unchanged, and cIOS is used, games will only read at 3x (but wiigator does some great cacheing and it feels like 6x anyways). Also to clear something up, wiigator's launcher is not launched when you run a game from the disc channel...the wii is using the apploader it was designed with (Essentially, wiigator's backup launcher tried to simulate the launching of a game as closely as possble, but of course, its not perfect and there are bugs...launching directly from the menu uses the wii's game launching code, which is perfect). You dont need the launcher anymore, but you can install it and use it to Force videomodes for certain import games, etc. I know im holding on to it.
QUOTE(goku1980 @ Nov 13 2008, 05:04 PM) so a true cutom firmware just woundering then would that make hbc useless or would we still need it to run other hb?

deshwasi said:@Forsaekn, very interesting. may i ask what was this breakthrough that enabled you to use the Wii app to load backups as well as originals? i am sure WiiGator would have loved to do it the same way as it seems to be the best possible loader (well, maybe not best, but Nintendo built)
