As long as you have the game on a DVD-r you can extract it with ImgBurn on any drive.
The only ones you need the Lg Drives for are the Original Wii Discs you buy in the shops.

We are a strange race who speak English and have problems with our own Irish language not to mind Italian.

Okay so on the compatibility wiki page, "Prince of Persia Rival Swords [NTSC] " is reported as working fine. I patched an ISO of it and burned it onto a DVD-R using Alcohol 120% at 16X speed and it doesn't play for me.. the screen stays completely black, never goes anywhere.

Has anyone else had any problems with it? If not, can you think of anything that I might've done wrong? Yes I have everything on the Wii installed correctly because I've already played Star Wars perfectly fine which was also burned the exact same way.

It's recommended you use ImgBurn instead of Alcohol to burn the ISOs. Use the AUTO burn function on there to ensure a successful burn. Every time I've used that setting, the games have worked.

I keep getting a DVD identity error, and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I started off by using the twilight hack to install the HBC, then using that to install CIOS36_rev5-64-v1042. I continued by installing DVDX using advance install IOS249, and finally I installed the backup launcher.

The game I'm trying to play is a scrubbed version of BoomBlox, but I still made sure to use the backup creator on the ISO before burning onto a Sony DVD-R at 4x speed in IMGBurn.

Is there something I'm doing wrong that I should know of? I'm on firmware 3.3U, and any help would be appreciated.

Id also recommend burning at 4x until you can confirm that a game works ok. I assume your using an NTSC Wii and using wiigators backup launcher ?
Haver other games worked ?

The Wiki says : Boom Blox YES Playable. Burn with 2.4x for less buggy cutscenes ( http://maschell.de/mediawiki-1.6.10/index....bility_List_PAL )
Id say there may be a few issues with it at a higher burn speed.

Sounds like what you did was all correct though i havent tried any scrubbed versions but from the list all seems to be correct and you should have a working game unless theres an ISO issue

You guys may want to check this out as well : http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=107590

Check out the zip file in my sig if u want all the files i use and never had a problem ... i think a few others on here have used them as well - I update as i find better files - just have a new backuploader EXE to put in now.

Same problem even though I haven't gotten anything to work yet. This was my first attempt. Could be my ISO. Not really sure.

Hi Guys

I have been following these boards fpr the last few days and i must admit fromm the start i do not have any idea what i am doing. In the last few days i have installed the the twilight hack and now the homebrew channel. Could someone explain step by step how i install the backup launcher. I understand how you backup your isos it just getting the launcher installed on my wii. Its a pal version and only has homebrew version 8 installed so far. I really appreciate anyones help thanks so much in advance. Thanks

redshrek - download the zip file in my sig - it contains a step by step on how to do it in a readme if u want to give it a try.
I made it as simple as possible, but if im missing anything please let me know.

Thanks very much really appreciated.

Another Noob question. When you patch the ISO is the new file suppose to be smaller then the original?

Alright, I guess I'll install ImgBurn then. Didn't want to have several ISO handlers on my computer taking up space. What speed would you recommend?

Well if you read my post completely, I mentioned that "I've already played Star Wars perfectly fine which was also burned the exact same way." I burned that one at 16X too and it was fine. Is 4X really the recommended speed? I have no problem setting it lower. Also, yes, I am using an NTSC Wii and WiiGator's backup launcher (hence the thread I'm posting in).

Thanks for the replies, though, you two.

I hope I solved the problem with extractpartition (with some hints from wiigator). You have to create an arbitrary file of exactly 516 byte (done with dd) and name it root-key. Then create a directory in your home folder called ".wii". The created file has to be moved into this directory with the common-key file. Then you can run extractpartition. For me it creates an iso (about 400MB smaller than the original one), but I still got error messages. I am gonna try to burn and run that image. I will report later

Here are some more specific instructions on a *nix machine:
Code:
mkdir ~/.wii
dd if=/dev/zero of=~/.wii/root-key count=1 bs=516

Then I copied the common-key from backupcreator to:
Code:
cp common-key ~/.wii

I then ran the tool though with the following output although it did reach 100%
CODEErrors detected:
ticket cert failure
tmd cert failure

Any help in determining the cause of the 2 errors would be appreciated. I am about to test if it actually did work or not.

Just wanted to add my two cents;

I don't see yet, why one would need to use Imgburn to burn a game. I'm both a Linux and XP user, and I've recorded games using Brasero and Nero @ 4x speed with no problem.
