Hi friends,

I have been given a 3ds from a guy, and he stated it was "hacked" before some system update that broked the cfw.
how can I check if it had a9lh or b9s installed?

I know there is an update guide from a9lh -> b9s but sine I don't know what was installed before:
is it safe to install b9s on the way, without knowing if it's already something installed from old hack method?
what happens if it already have a9lh and I install b9s over it?

thanks for help.

Hold (SELECT) while booting. On the top of the upper screen it should say:

Luma3DS vxxx configuration

If the version is v7.0.5 or below you have A9LH. →A9LH to B9S
On version number v7.1 you have an older version of B9S →Updateting B9S (which you can do in any case Luma ≥ v7.1)

Don't do a normal B9S
installation while A9LH is installed. This will not work and might brick the console. If you have A9LH use the upgrade guide - (which is much easier).

You can check with holding down select while the 3ds is being powered on, it will tell you what Luma3DS it is on.

Very useful information =)
Thank you very much.

I don't have the console right now, so I can't check. But I will do later.

So in any case it should boot Luma?
What's seems confusing is that this guy stated the update removed the hack.
So there is a chance Luma will not show it's menu while holding select.

There have been hacks (long before I started with the 2/3DS) based on manipulated themes (Menu Hax) and rxtools custom firmware. That was even before A9LH. In this case an update might have removed the hacks and fixed the menu flaw that allowed Menu Hax.

This older methods were (as far as I know, really before I started) not persistent and removing the SD-card, removed any hacks.

In this case your console is probably "virgin". Just hold (SELECT) while booting to see if any Luma Settings Menu comes up.

Maybe also upload a screenshot of the files and folders of your SD.
