Hey guys,

Need help here... I've got AVG 8.0 free edition on my PC (Vista 64-bit) and it keeps deleting a cracked exe file I have for a program...

I've tried placing the file as an exception in the resident shield but every time a virus scan is run the file is removed and placed in the virus vault...

Is there anyway I can get AVG to ignore the file completely? Or failing that is there another free virus scanner out there that will allow me to ignore files that I choose?

Thanks!

AVG has deemed itself the watchdog of the intarwebs, deleting any hackware it finds and labelling it viral...

Thus sealing it's own demise.

Do you know of another free AV option that won't flag them as viral?

Do you think that post helps...

I've checked the AVG support, their option is to submit the file to them for review then they will deem if it should be classed as a Trojan or not... Yeah I'm not going to be doing that anytime soon, I'd prefer to decide what is safe on my PC not them.

Lol, I wouldn't use AVG anymore..
They aren't as reliable as they were before..
They even made it to the dutch newspapers.

Because they were deleting user32.dll.
I had to save my moms computer from it >.

Everyone keeps saying "DO NOT USE AVG" however you are not giving him an alternative? I however can not give one as I am not a fan of anti virus programs. I could tell you what to stay away from yet that is not very helpful. I have however heard good things about Kaspersky and NOD32.

Yea, you're right, I could have given him an alternative. I'm not a big fan of antivirus either..

NOD32 is good, it's just good, and it doesn't slow you computer down.
Avast is pretty good (and free).

Norton is bloatware, it was not always the case but it is far to heavy imho, same with McAfee. I have seen what it can do to a computer when scanning.

When you scan, does it give you an option to delete it of not?

I run my scans in the middle of the night automatically, but no it doesn't ask if I want to delete, it just moves it from programs files to it's virus vault.

It won't delete it but I have to manually restore the file...
