Inspired by this question on Ask GBAtemp I've created this topic. Or actually tj_cool locked it by saying:
QUOTE said:
This would better be suited as a forum topic with a Poll.
So that's what I'm going to do now.

--------
Has any of you created his/her avatar completely on its own?
Yes if:
You took a picture of two dancing bears on the top of the Eiffel Tower.
Or if you painted a painting of flowers, pasted your name underneath it with Photoshop and then use it as your avatar.

No if:
You've copied a picture from images.google.com into Photoshop, pasted your name under it, changed the background, and now use it as your avatar.
Or if you take a picture of a Rembrandt, (not that you should do that, especially not when there is a sign with "No camera's") but an Epic Face on someone's head and use it as your avatar.

----
Have you created your avatar on your own?

I've made some abstract ones completely from scratch, but those tend to look ugly so I don't use them.

My image originally comes from google image but I've added the flames and whatnot. I don't know if it counts, but I don't think there are many people here who would take the time to do something completely from scratch. Especially when it probably would be as nice.

I didn't technically create my Character in my avatar. I did dress him up and used my own ingame creative choreography and snap a sceen shot of him. So technically, I did and didn't.

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.
