I wish people would stop spewing bullshit.

First, OP does not want anyone to be "test dummies"
Second, compiling a kernel, with proper toolchain, is not a very basic thing that most noobs in this forum could do.
Third, he shared information for those who may not have known was out there. I for one, had not realized there was an upstream 4.17 kernel being worked on.
Fourth, installing a kernel WILL NOT BREAK YOUR SPEAKERS.
Fifth, if you don't know what the hell something is, stay out of the way, let someone else do it. Clearly, this post was NOT for beginners.

I could go on, but this is just ridiculous. So many millenials in this forum.
Ahh so you're OP's spokesperson. Got it! Next time i'll refrain from having a little fun on these forums.

I clearly know it's not for beginners! Even said it wouldnt brick your shit. Guess you have a hard time reading. /smh

Btw, since your speaking for others, can you let everyone know I was joking, or are you still unaware of that?!

Next time you see OP, please let him know we appreciate his release. Also let him know that he should replace you as a spokesperson, you're kind of a tool.

Lol yea. I'm pretty savvy when it comes to linux, but indeed, this is beyond me. I got the kernel to compile and boot, but nothing. I can test sound but it still only shows dummy output.

Wait so sound actually works with those patches ? The dummy output is just a matter of configuring ALSA then.

I suggest you also try USB Host since it looks like the patch is heavier than just sound.

I believe Dummy Output is there by default. like 98% sure lol. I was super stoked when I noticed it too, but then I was like... Wait, this was always here.

Also, how do I apply to be a mod here? This forum is out of control, and I want to crack the whip.

suggestion from irc that those patches work on Chromium OS which is using the same kernel like we do , but routing is missing thats what tardyp reported

I'm sure for someone messing with ALSA stuff should be easy enough... I am not that someone though :(

They would need to rewrite stuff in the actual source files

Meh who knows... I'll do some "research" (a la Google), and try it out.

actually @Natehaxx pointed out to me that they actually have the drivers working. so that milestone is accomplished. i believe the thing at hand now, is getting the drivers to route properly through the dsp (im assuming) to the actual OS or something similar. I'm positive it will be done, but that is super low priority (for good reason). it's coming though, we just gotta let this baby grow into a full boy

Here's a crazy idea: TEST THE DAMN THING BEFORE MAKING A USELESS THREAD!!!
I'm certainly not. I'm not risking damaging my console. Good fucking luck, indeed

For all I know it might put out too much power and blow my speakers, it's software-controlled voltage, after all.

The main risk for every hardware subsystem of the Switch is exactly this; software-regulated voltage. Sure, underpowering isn't an issue because the component simply won't have enough power to turn on or activate, but overpowering a subsystem can cause a multitude of problems, ranging from minor things (louder audio or a too bright screen backlight) to complete destruction of the component.

Remember when Fail0verflow ruined the screen on a switch building a Linux port?
