So, I've seen their first look trailer, and i am don't sure about that this will be popular

Even when it's compared to the system that already on the market, switch 2 is actually

kinda lacks any new features.

For Example, Steam Deck:

A portable(hm, it's not portable as it looks) handheld system, that can be connected to the TV/Monitor, via hub. That allows to play games on it with the controller.

But the switch(AFAIK), was the first system that made that gimmick more popular to consumers, and better because it's don't required people to buy more controllers.

Okay, Steam Deck costs a lot. If we needed only a something that costs LESS, there's a market for a cheap emulation based consoles. They offer a way to connect a cheap system to the HDMI port and allow the same trick, but only they don't sometimes even require a controller. Because your console - is controller.

The problem is if we compare that emulation based systems, that is actually a problem. This guys don't have any homebrew software(AFAIK), so you will be forced to play only games and use software that designed for Oldschool hardware.

So,if you need to play Modern new games - you need Steam Deck. Retro Games - emulation based handhelds. Switch in a situation, that he has a lot of ports of modern games, but it's actually not Hi-End Device, so the ports are graphically inferior on PCs.

The switch 2 more likely have a modern games. Also, people gonna be waiting that someone will hack it up. And this means - the Switch may lack homebrews for a while.

If someone want to play a games on the start, they`ll be playing old ports that don't use full power of the switch 2. Also, you will have option to play old games from subscribtion based service.

So, Let's get back to the topic. I have a question(Actually it's in the thread title),

if we have switch already, wanting to play some old or modern games(not both), and we have some alternatives, why we should even buy a switch 2?

The gimmick that nintendo presented is already in some handhelds. A variation, but some devices have some sort of it.

The modern gamer will probably pick up Steam Deck. The Retro gamers, as i see addicted to the emulator handheld consoles(I don't love and even own one of this things,so i am not calling this retro handhelds.I have a retro handheld, but it's N3DS), and the switch 1.If you just wanted to play the Nintendo switch online's old games, that don't be on switch 2, why not just a buy a Steam Deck, or a emulator based handheld?

And if you need a system that will play switch games, you will probably buy a steam deck and emulate it.

They have a same gimmick, same games via emulator, so once again - referring to the threads name.

What are you guys think about my thoughts about the new switch?
Feel free to share your thoughts :-)

New first-party exclusives will definitely be a reason to buy it for a major part of existing customers. Exclusive first-party games is what Nintendo always used to be the best at.
Especially games that are family-friendly and appeal to a much wider audience than most of those depressing photo-realistic games with weapons, monsters and violence.

i'm on the fence too.

I got a cheapo steam deck used, and holy shit is that thing amazing.
emulates even up to ps4 games (not super great though).
steam sales are often and frequent, paying for deck games is super cheap too.

the next mario, zelda and/or pokemon must be freaking crazy spectacular to get me to buy it.
And I wasn't impressed with mario odyssey or the switch pokemon games outside or Arceus.

People are skeptical until the new Zelda/Mario is exclusive to it, and that's all Nintendo needs.

Beyond that, casuals are wary of emulation devices. The vast majority of people will buy a Switch 2 because they don't know better.

It's a mobile 3050 SoC in terms of strength and features. The Joycons are finally made for adult-sized hands. We get a nice large screen. The kickstand doesn't fall over when you look at it wrong. These are tons of improvements already. And a 2nd USB C port, that's nice too. (Maybe we can charge while also launching a USB C payload this time, lol.)

I know that I'll buy it (or at least, try to) whenever it comes out, regardless of its specs, mainly because of the exclusive games that get released on Nintendo systems.
Whether we need a Switch 2 at this point, probably not? Do we need Switch Pro? Well, I guess? Switch 2 looks to me like a Switch Pro that never came out. I just hope that Switch 2 will have a decent build quality and that they'll finally address the dreaded joy-con drift issues (the analog sticks look a bit better and bigger on new joy-cons). The new kickstand doesn't look that great to me as it seems as if it can be easily broken if for some reason or another you decide to carry your Switch 2 around while pretending that its kickstand is a handle. :D

Loading speeds.

Even if all you play are switch 1 games, everything should load much much faster. Digital especially, but we'll see how much of a speed increase the cartridges get. That's enough for me.

Let's not pretend Steam Deck is "high-end" anymore. Switch 2 handheld should be in the ballpark of Steam Deck performance at minimum, probably better taking into account DLSS and 1080p screen. So if you buy your games more on Switch than PC, that's a pretty good reason to get a Switch 2 instead. If you'd rather buy PC and get the freedom and responsibility to tweak things so they work, go that route instead. The hardware is going to be too closely matched to significantly overcome ecosystem preferences. (well, Switch 2 should be substantially better docked, but you can always sync to a desktop PC if you're willing to shell out.)

Literally the only thing that matters is having more capable hardware to play a new generation of Nintendo games. I don't see any point in comparing it to any other device because the only reason you'd buy a Switch 2 realistically is if you care about the exclusives.

gonna be blunt here: i truly don't how to feel towards the SW2 for a good amount of reasons

firstly is you could never really go about hearing about it, my issue with that is most of the information
being pushed out was alleged, and in regards to the design being 1:1 that's sorta it to my knowledge
so when the teaser came out i saw the same people hyping it up being borderline disappointed or
just meh about it, i can't exactly say the leaks are to blame as alot of it wasn't true to begin with
i feel like that what killed the hype was so many people fixating on a console they don't even know
will be any better, like don't get me wrong there will definitely be banger exclusives on there,
i just think so many people were ready for a console with better performance that i feel like people have
forgotten that Nintendo has never really been a "performance first" company it's sorta why i was on the
fence with the performance leak because if this truly is a N3DS situation then I'd imagine the performance
would be better but very minuscule in difference.

maybe there is something big i'm missing? i just don't see anything to be hyped for outside of the exclusive games tbh.

I am not exactly looking forward to the switch 2. I think it is a way for Nintendo to get more money by making exclusive games.

If we think vast majority of population most still aren't even aware of emulation devices. You probably have offline friends you never bring up emulation to because they mainly just buy consoles or not really into the pc/android devices. Most would rather do it the way corps want them to do over fear of legality over it.

Plus alot still skipped switch because there are few titles that interest them. They maybe a huge steam library user. A switch 2 may interest them over just skipping original switch now that it has a more of a library and backwards compatible they can take advantage of older titles and new exclusive ones. So it really depends on person if they already own a switch 1 maybe unlike to buy switch 2 or other way around. They could be very aware of emulation and just enjoy putting a cartridge in or buying it digitally.

See, this is something I don't get: Sony changes the number at the end of all of their home console names after the first, while doing little more than upgrading the hardware, and everyone's fine with that. Nintendo does (almost) the same thing with the follow-up to one of their best-selling systems, and suddenly it's now a problem. Seems like a double-standard viewpoint to me.

Personally, I have a Switch and now a Steam Deck, and I'm still considering getting a Switch 2 when it comes around. Not during the first couple months at least (I like to wait and see how the hardware does for a while, to let any first-batch defectives get filtered out and avoid being the victim of a "red ring of death" scenario), but at some point. Plus, by principle, I don't emulate anything that's on a currently-supported console, so emulation devices are out of the question.

We still don't know what will Switch 2 has to offer to the owners of Switch console and all the new wannabe owners and we're already making assumptions without foundations.

This is mere speculation that leads us nowhere.

What I've got very clear is that I WILL buy it, don't know when, but I will.

The Switch is just too old now. It was obsolete when it first released and is even more obsolete now. Sure we've seen some impossible ports like the Witcher 3 and while they are playable, the Switch is the worst platform for them. Overclocking became popular among hardcore fans for a good reason. The most optimized Switch game of all is probably Tears of the Kingdom which only ran at 900p 30FPS.

Technology has evolved over the last 8 years. The Switch 2 looks like it will be a simple hardware upgrade lacking innovation and that's all it needs to be to stay relevant. It seems like it will have a better CPU and GPU and support DLSS and micro SD Express cards.

I'd like to see something more innovative but it's not happening this time. I'm paying a lot of money for hardware just to play the next Zelda game.

Switch 2 alternatives already exist but they won't play the next Mario Kart and Mario Party out the box. The casual crowd doesn't care about the Steam Deck.

If we're going to be honest, even the Steam Deck has already reached the point where it's more or less obsolete. More recent non-indie games (and even some high-end indie games) struggle to run on it, and games like Dragon's Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter: Wilds simply require more powerful hardware than what the Steam Deck has. It's just kind of impossible to make any sort of handheld system that will remain relevant hardware-wise for more than a couple years at most.

Only thing that really matters for handheld systems is what they have to offer, since hardware is never going to be a big selling point (because if hardware with long-lasting relevance is the only goal, then you're better off buying top-of-the-line parts and building your own PC, which is obviously going to cost quite a bit).

[...] It was obsolete when it first released [...]
For being "obsolete" at release the Switch has achieved something the other consoles can't even dream of.

Games from the other consoles are being released on Switch (why could that be?) -Nintendo and its fans know the answer-, how many Nintendo's IP games are being released on the other consoles?
