Are thread locking requests not accepted?

I've reported my thread and asked for it to get locked since it has just devolved into trolling and namecalling without any productive posts being made, and it's still left unlocked.

Can you not ask for your own thread to be locked?

That depends on your reasonings behind the request. Yes, the report button is there, but you don't go reporting everything that offends you.

Sidenote, GBATEMP is a pretty cool place, and mods are doing a great job at handling these kind of reports. If you're expecting to be offended, you'll get offended even if those posts/comments weren't aimed at you.

Do not go spamming the report button, mods and supervisors has a life outside of the forum and your reports will get handled at the appropriate time.

Well, it's my own post that I reported. Reporting your own posts works if you want to change the title of your thread but I just wanted to ask if it works for locking too.

I usually don't report the posts from others unless they're actually offensive.

I don't think there's anything against asking, assuming you're putting sufficient detail into the report so the mods know why you're wanting it locked. I know as a whole threads aren't usually locked without good reason, but that doesn't sound unreasonable from what you've said.

Alternatively, reporting the actual offending posts could be a reasonable approach too.

I think "we the users" should have the right to lock our own threads, and once they're locked they're locked. (Unless a mod wants to unlock it for whatever reason). I can't think of a single instance where this would lead to any kind of abuse, but it would indeed shift a rather annoying staffer responsibility back to the users. I'm honestly surprised it wasn't designed this way from the get-go.

People locking their own threads just leads to people stinting discussion though. It feels counter productive for a forum.
