I have a few irons of varying quality. Technique is more important than the make/model of iron (as long as it’s not utter crap!)
For this job I just used my Weller WP35. It’s a solid low power basic iron with a variety of tips. Nothing to write home about. Power isn’t adjustable but it‘s not that heavy duty to matter. I wouldn’t use it for a larger project where i needed to do a lot of larger components quickly. For that I’d probably use the one attached to my Hakko rework station but that’s way overkill for what you’re doing here.
Bottom Line: you can’t go wrong with Hakko or Weller. After that, the discussion can get pretty contentious and religious. Check out the reviews on
