Are cheap Oscilloscopes worth it?

I'm currently wondering whether to pick up a relatively cheap oscilloscope because there are times when I'd like to be able to check for things which may be easier than with just a multimeter e.g. clock signal, noise, etc. As well as potentially looking at other things in the future.

But given my usage, I'm reluctant to go too high but I'm not sure if the lower end ones are really worth it.

Does anyone have any opinions/experience with lower end scopes?

So far the Hantek DSO5102P seems to be the cheapest I've seen recommended with decent bandwidth (200mhz when hacked) but I'm curious of what people think of cheaper ones.

I have what I think is the basic Rigol model (DS1052 apparently? 3 floors away from me so can't check right now) and it seems to do the job fine, though the controls are a bit clunky (for example, when using both inputs, by default they're not vertically aligned) - calibrated a couple of TVs with it :)

I've been working on making a wheel controller with arduino, 3d printed round knob, and a potientometer.to play breakout and games like that. Kinda of like the old Atari 2600 controllers.

@FlareReZ what language would you reccomend to start with, to learn DS coding? Just curious
  • FlareReZ @ FlareReZ:
devkitPro by defaults use C and C++. So I suppose you start off with C first and then move onto C++.

  • FlareReZ @ FlareReZ:
Because C++ is more complex than C.
