Hardware Anyone know what this is for?

Hi guys, So I wanted to change my housing shell for my 3DS XL however I ended up losing one of this clear tape thingy which looks like in the picture below. As I manage to disassembled the 3ds but I found that I am unable to reassemble quite frankly I'm lost and afraid I might do something wrong. So I'm gonna bring it to someone who can help me out. Any ideas what that thing is for?

But really the black tape like thing came off while I was disassembling the 3ds.
So anyways I'm guessing it ain't important?

In all seriousness, I've never seen anything like that before, I'm sorry. Maybe it helped hold the casing together?

It might be important - with the way they cram so many layers of electronics into these things it might be an electrical insulation layer preventing two PCBs or components shorting out.

is it thick like foam? the 3ds has black tape-like foam stuff to insulate/protect it a bit more, but i'm sure it would work fine without it.
i have only rebuilt normal 3ds consoles though, not xl.

there are loads of little parts, led diffusers so the light shines nicely, but sure if you are worried about putting it all back together, get someone who can

the black thing is very thin, it's made of plastic and it's kinda translucent.
Oh well I'm sending it to someone since almost nobody where I live in can help me out.
