i think it probably doesn't...

pretty sure the USB support on wii only currently handles FAT/FAT32

When you create threads regarding media players, you might want to specify which media you're talking about, since music files are far more supported than video files.

I have to agree with OSW tho, I am pretty sure that the wii can currently only read off of "some" FAT/FAT32 formatted HDDs.

I don`t know what NTFS is but I`m using GeeXbox with an 1TB HDD for quiet some time now and it plays movies without problem...

But the mplayer doesn`t recognise the HDD but a memory-stick is recognised by it as well.

althought http://wiibrew.org/wiki/GeeXboX does say:
USB storage (flash disks, card readers, external enclosures, etc. Supports reading of nearly all major *nix/Win/Mac partition types and writing the majority of them except NTFS/UFS)

maybe needs correcting..

NTFS is a Microsoft File System, thus closed source, so it took AGES to reverse engineer an library that was capable of writing/reading to it using alternative operating systems (ex Linux)

I took that to mean that it will read NTFS but not write it.

He is right. It's fairly common for software to support reading but not writing to NTFS. You can find applications that do it but the chance of corruption is too great.
