Hardware Any way to fix the lock protection thing

One of my friends has a problem with his 3ds. It will never read the sd card so he cant go on the eshop or play mk7 offline. All it says is Turn the lock protection off Is there any way to fix this??btw the lock protection is up it just wont read it.

The lock switch is probably busted, has he tried it on a PC?

Copy the data off of it, buy a new SD, put data on new SD. Not too hard, and you can get an 8GB card for ~$5.

It works fine on a pc. And he did get a new sd and copied the data.

Take a small piece of tape and put it so that it completely covers the area with the lock slider. That usually works as in most cases it detects the position of the slider to determine if the card is write locked or not.

So both the old card and the new card detect that it is write protected even when the switch is up? I would say the sd card slot is busted, there is a little switch in there that detects where the write protect tab is placed. Might have to contact Nintendo.

I always had this problem with my PCs built in reader but always shrugged it off to a software problem. Was intending on trying to contact for a warranty replacement but didn't seem worth the effort being I might get the run around just like when I had to ask for a GPU replacement.
