I posted a few days ago asking how to get started with getting CFW on my 3DS and get backups working. I was told to maybe wait a few days as it's still unstable. Any word on that now? i'm still a bit too scared to hack my own 3DS. (I have a 3DS XL mario edition by the way if that matters.)

Was considering buying a used original 3DS incase I brick mine by accident.

The "safer tool" won't be released (cept' if you mean the updated sysUpdater), just follow the tut and make sure you get the right files and everything should be going well. If you're that scared of bricking, maybe you shouldn't be using homebrews/cfw/etc.

It ia still the same buggy proccess.

Please don't come back every few days to make the same thread over and over again....

people with an Old 3DS have about a 95%-99% success rate I think with downgrading with the latest sysupdater. as long as you follow directions then you will be just fine I'm sure of.

do you mean the original 3DS or the 3DS XL? (I don't have a NEW 3DS XL.)

Also can you still play online and use all your own games and such?

You can use sysupdater. Don't rush when downgrading, and check your files 5 times to make sure. You'll most likely not brick.

Reading the tutorial now. "check your files"? "don't rush"? what? am I gonna have to have fast reflexes? lol..

I might try downgrading my 3DS XL. Hope it turns out well.

Some people rush, and don't check if they got the correct update files, and yeah, they brick it. Gotta be patient, and take it slow! the 3DS doesn't like danger, it likes to take things slow when you're downgrading it! :P

Understandable! also, my 3DS firmware "10.3.0.28U" does this have any relevance to anything I need to know about just incase?

A number of people have bricked their devices after installing new3DS update files to their old3DS units, generally as a result of them rushing and not paying close enough attention to what they're installing.

It may seem silly, but it's the reality of the situation.

Edit: fucking ninjas

10.3 is fine. As long as you have a method to get into Homebrew Launcher, you're good. I prefer to use Themehax as my way point.

I'm confused now because the tutorial has only given me two files. "sysUpdater.3dsx" and "sysUpdater.smdh" do I just place both those in "update" folder of my SD card i'll create?

Lol no...if your confused already you better not attempt.

Before any attemt to downgrade by anyone a hardmod should be installed and back up of nand made incase of brick. With backup you can recover from any brick.

I'm not confused. I'm just making sure I don't do what a lot of other people have done which is brick their system. Iv'e done stuff like this before. I just want as much info as possible.

If I follow the guide exactly, I won't brick right? like I said i'm on a 3DS XL.

You have a 50 / 50 chance. I dont give a shit what anyone says. It can possibly soft or hard brick. Thats why i advise doing a hard mod first. Unless you have money to burn...

Hardmod? like opening the console and changing something? if that's the case it may be wise for me to wait for a more streamlined method. I'm not dumb. Just cautious.

I remember when the PS3 first got CFW and it was so difficult and had a lot of issues. But now it's very easy to do.

Yes. Open system, solder 4 wires to 3ds and a sd card. Insert in pc, make dump of nand. Worst case scenario, pay a modder to do it. Safer in the long run.
