Once upon a time, I was playing this Ngage game called Catan, it was so good that I couldn't stop playing, and since it was the videogame port of a Boardgame I decided to buy the real thing.
It was good, then I went into the Internet to find what other great games I was missing!
When I was young I played Monopoly, Risk and other famous games, but then I discovered this community called BoardGameGeek.com where they hoster literally thousands of boardgames, even some of the most succesfull game franchises!! (WOW, AoE, Doom).

So a year later I can't say I'm a boardgame geek, but I do respect them now, I own:
Settlers of Catan
Risk 2120
Memoir '44
Bang!
and one Avalon Hill game that looks like Starcraft (can't remember the name)

Since I moved to the US 4 months ago, my friends in Bolivia are playing them, BUT here I just bought a game on eBay called: Battlelore, from the creator of Memoir '44.

I cannot wait to play it, are there any other BG players?
What do you think about BGs?
Anyone playing Battlelore?

i got nintendo monopoly and scrabble

Tha is what I'm talking about, most of us only play the commercial games like Monopoly and Scrabble (maybe Twister too). But there are games that are really really good, they have mechanics (like gameplay) that are soooo different and funny.

I am NOT a board gamer but I am only seeing the light as it is a HUGE community (just like hours, off course, videogames ar cooler).

For example, BoardGameGeek.com (that would be like the Maxconsole.com community of BGGs) has this list of the top rated BGames.

Also, here are some examples of boardgames from some favorite videogame franchises:

Doom: The Boardgame

Sid Meier's Civilization: The Boardgame

Hell!, there is even a huge category for videogame based boardgames!

Off course just like videogame movie licences (and viceversa) the good games are the ones created exclusevely and with a lot of testing.
Also, TCG like Yu-GiOh!, Pokemon and Magic are also covered, even Miniatures games like Warhammer too.!!!!

Please, share more comments!!!, what do you think?

I haven't played a board game since "Mutant High School" (or title to that effect,) back in high school, and didn't like it much. I used to sell computer-based board games by SSI & Avalon Hill back in the day, but the only one that looked interesting and wasn't a war re-enactment that I tried was OGRE... that was moderately fun. Recently I've grabbed up an Xbox 360 for a little while, and on their download section they've got Catan.. I hear it's great, so I might giver 'er a go tonight.

I'm a boardgame geek!

I have around 100 games at the moment.

I can heartilly reccommend Battlelore, espeicially if you like Memoir 44. Its he next logical step in terms of the 'game engine' and its fanatasy based too!

Well, I played through the Catan demo on XBLA, and I must say, I'm impressed!
Trouble is, of the several of my friends who would like it (monopoly-heads,) none have an xbox.. I assume there's probably an online flash version or something, but the xbox version looks really nice. I may buy it... or just make it out of legos and construction paper.

It's hooky!

There's a game from Steve Jackson Games, called Frag. It's an FPS board game, but like all Steve's games, it's hilarious.

And I'd recommend Puerto Rico. Pure awesome dirty underhanded backstabby trickery against your friends as you develop your port town and try to destroy theirs.

(Hint: grow grain. It's a small but steady income

Yeah! I read about that game long ago!, wanted to buy it, but all my friends said: "Why would we play a 'boardgame FPS' if we can play a FPS on a PC or on a PS2????". and I got some other card wargame called Naval Battles where it is all about siking warboats!!.

You can check my list of games and a brief history about each one of them here.

Edit:
TBH, the Frag game by Steve Jackson is poor. For a better FPS feel with more fun and cooler stuff, try;

Duel of Ages
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/6050

There's mucho expansions too...
Now playing that game is as expensive as playing Magic, too many expansions for my humble taste.
