I've bought a 2ds xl after not having a 3ds for a good couple of years and never really liked the 3ds UI, especially when you had a large collection of games. It's quite clunky bad messy even with folders. I remember asking a good few years ago if there was any alternative way to browse games, even booting from a text list etc. I don't think there was one back then, has this changed?

I like the simple methods that old Ds carts used to have

no. there hasnt been anything of that sort made.

you can make ds forwarders. however, I would agree that the way the 3ds sorts is sloppy. it's not unlike the ps3 where I think default sorting is based on time installed rather than name. also, you can't differentiate updates or dlc in system settings. I have two or three dlc things for I think blaster master, and there's no way to distinguish between them. I find the 3ds to be a bit sloppy in that regard, and it can be a bit sluggish for really large cards too.

You can launch games from the FBI Titles list. But it's a detour and not convenient.

you may be able to go over the 300 title limit through fbi. I think I may have gone beyond due to retroarch, but I uninstalled all of those cores, and it looks much cleaner now. :D

Oh can you? I thought I tried this year's yea and I couldn't figure out how to get games to boot from there
Why not?
FBI → Tiles → (wait for list to load) → select title from list and press (A) → Launch Title

Works for me with 3DS, DS and GBA software.
