Hi, I've literally just signed up to ask this, but i've been using the site for years for various consoles. I've got a fair bit of experience of following instructions so I think i'm above noob status, but I'm by no means a CFW expert! Just setting expectations...!

This is my first ever brick, and the first real time I've not been able to fix a problem myself (obvs with the help of this and other forums). I'm cringing thinking about the abuse I'm probably going to get, but I need help with black screen/solid blue light.

I was following the the 3ds.guide, but I've totally messed up. I'm so embarrassed. Specifically, I was hacking an old 3ds on 11.6.0 (target 3ds) by using another old 3ds i'd hacked years ago (source 3ds. i also followed the guide then, and had updated on b9s CFW to 11.6.0.). I've gone all the way down to "Section VI - Flashing the target 3DS’s FIRM", but I've accidentally flashed the SOURCES FIRM!! I know, I'm an idiot. I was distracted by my kids and wasn't concentrating. I can't remember the message, but it basically said flash was successful. I powered down, but now it only powers on but stays on black screen. I can't access recovery mode, I can't access any payload, i've removed battery with power on, i've not bothered with the wifi connection.

Is there any hope for me? With the 3ds I mean, not life in general. I have a backed up sysNAND, but can't figure out how to use that.

Any help would be appreciated. Please be gentle with me.

Hey again. I still haven't got a flash cart, as they're difficult to find in the UK and I've been waiting for one to come up on eBay.

I read on this forum last week though that, as of May last year, it's still not fully possible to unbrick using a flash cart and magnet. Ppl are waiting for a fix to come out - have I read that right? but your suggestion to buy a flash cart implies that I can actually dontgis now? I'm confused :-/

Your going to be waiting a long while if your hopeing one ever shows up on ebay. Flashcarts are illegal for companies like ebay to sell. as such, any that do appear on there get removed quickly. You would be better off searching elsewhere to get one.

Cool thanks. But is it actually possible to recover a brick with one? Maybe I've not found the right thread, but it appears not..?

Yes, ntrboot has been released and has been for some time. This card works just fine though you need to carefully take the card apart to switch it to (and from) ntrboot mode. Expect it to take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month to arrive though since it is shipping from China.

The only brick you can't recover from now is a MCU brick which you don't have. It can even boot your 3ds if the NAND is physically missing/destroyed though in that case it would be limited to emunand only and you would have to use the magnet every time you booted the system. Fortunately for your kind of brick that isn't a problem.

In your case once you get your flash cart and get it working with ntrboot all you need to do is start here https://3ds.hacks.guide/installing-boot9strap-(ntrboot) and this includes a video on how to open the cart assuming you get the one I linked to.
