And...I had to google Shoujo...

I guess I'm just lame...but all of these super special names and stuff? This is a sub-culture I'm glad I haven't been sucked into. I mean...they're just girly cartoons, right? Why not say, "There's a girly version of Dragonball?" Instead there's a "proper" term... Crazy...

Shoujo mean's "girl" (and shounen means boy), but saying "a girly version" would be wrong more than an insult as when it comes to anime/manga it is an entire genre not an adjective. For instance, for just any book you can't say it's shoujo, because the genre does not apply to regular books, but instead you could say "it's a book that's shoujo oriented" Though that's a little weeaboo-ish and I wouldn't do it. Hencewhy even if you consider cartoons "anime" and vice versa you can't call them "shounen" as that is not it's genre, AFAIK the only American anime that apply is Totally Spies, that is a Shoujo show with Shounen elements.

I think taking the time to correct someone who says anime are cartoons is a little weeaboo-ish in and of itself

That's Otaku-ish, don't compare us to them.

Weeaboo = Otaku, but Otaku does not always = Weeaboo.

This thread made me laugh. People who think their right on both sides.
Also, ignorant probably does NOT mean what the majority of you think it means.
Ignorance, is, simply, a lack of knowledge. Opinions cannot be ignorant, as they are opinions.

Examples :

Ignorance: Anime is/isn't cartoons because it's made using computers, so, it has to/can't be a cartoon.

Opinions: Anime are cartoons because cartoons generally refer to any animation.

Ahem:

"The word cartoon has various meanings, based on several very different forms of visual art and illustration. The artists who draw cartoons are known as cartoonists."

Cartoons are generally any sort of drawing, and anime is a drawing.
However, there are different definitions of cartoon.

Weeaboo
1. A person so obsessed with japanese culture that they ignore their own.
2. Someone obsessed beyond healthy levels with anime.
3. People who ruin activities for other people with overzealous references to said anime.
4. People so oblivious to reality they only care about anime.
5. An action worthy of getting one's ass beaten.

1. Inuyasha fans
2. Americans claming to be "Otaku."
3. "Did you hear that kid? He won't shut up about how great Full Metal Alchemist is. Such a weeaboo."

I especially like the second #2

It's ironic, what you just said. Actually, all of this post is ironic, read through the thread and you'll see why.

"The reason for this is because it oozes ignorance"

How does an opinion ooze ignorance???

What facts is the person stating that denying and/or unaware of?

also Irony:

.
the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.
2.
Literature .
a.
a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated.
b.
(especially in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes, etc., especially as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme, or emotion.
3.
Socratic irony.
4.
dramatic irony.
5.
an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected.

Did my statement fit any of those?

I actually agree with this statement and will go so far as to say that the original quote was ignorant

you made an statement regarding the ignorant posts in this thread while also being ignorant of the fact that we've already discussed and settled each and every point you listed.

Honestly, I don't consider Anime cartoons.

For me, in my mind, the definitions of both are different.

Anime's usually tend to have an overall story, like a movie. While cartoons (from what I seen), change every week. I think that's why I like FMA because it has one grand story. Cartoons, well when I hear that, I think of like South Park, Simpsons, King of the Hill, Futurama...
