British prosecutors say they have the evidence to prove there was a criminal conspiracy at Rupert Murdoch's News of the World newspaper involving former senior executives, including Andy Coulson and Rebekah Brooks, to hack the phones of more than 600 people including the murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler.

This is going to get even more messy. Especially with Coulson facing a perjury charge. Whilst Cameron is going to take a political punch in the balls. Overall, I wonder how this phone hacking/media ethics affair is going to impact on British journalism and how the boundaries of the press are going to be readdressed.

As a journalist, this whole thing has turned everything we've ever known upside-down. The entire code of conduct that we follow, our laws; all of it is now slowly being torn up and rewritten from scratch because of these idiots. I really hope they get what's coming to them, good journalism = ethical journalism.

Bring in the popcorn and let the live streaming of the hearings begin!

On a serious matter, this is something that could happen on a larger scale in pretty much any country. Modern technology is able to do more and more, but the amount of possible exploits on used software can lead to huge problems. Just look at the new viruses used in Iran and the amount of different zero-day vulnerabilities used there. Even though it was a professional job, someone could theoretically find an exploit by accident and use it for a long period of time in the similar manner.

I read somewhere that ginger brooks was angry about getting charged with phone hacking etc. Of course she was angry, she was hoping to get away with it.

Do journalist ever practice good morals? Not since the 60s right?

Just remember who brought you the news that these journalists weren't practicing morally in the first place.

Exactly. Grouping all journalists of the levels of a few scumbags is like grouping all video game companies to be like, I dunno, Activision. They're not.

A few scumbags? It has been said for years around 33 percent of all Journalist are scum. I would call 33% more than just a few.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
