UPDATE:

Alright, I bought an external 1TB USB Hitachi HDD today. I'm looking to install the USB Loader GX and my Wii games all onto this drive and run everything within this hard drive (without the need of a SD card).

I do remember something about needing two partitions for this and formatting with a special file system, but I can't seem to find any tutorials that address these specifics. Am I looking in the wrong place?
The special file system called WBFS and you don't need it anymore. The easiest thing you can do is to create a FAT32 parition and copy the games you have on your PC with wii backup manager. You can also directly install your original wii games discs with all USB loaders to FAT32!

Check out xflak's NUS AutoDownloader.
It'll set you up for USB loading with CFG USB loader, Formatting, basically EVERYTHING you need to set up that drive with.

I, too started with WBFS, but this is much much better IMO....
(running usb drive FAT32 format)

So how would I set up USB Loader GX to run from the same hard drive after I do all the formating and transfering using Wii Backup Manager.

Also, in the tutorial for using Wii Backup Manager, it still has WBFS as an option. Why not use this?

Because the games on WBFS are larger as on FAT32 or NTFS, no PC can access a WBFS parition, only special managers like wii backup manager, and the loading speed is on all file systems the same, so no reason why use WBFS.

Try Configurable USB Loader. You'll like it hands down over what your using now. ( I was using what your using).
Wii Backup Manager has WBFS because, yeah, you could still use that, but keep in mind, your whole drive is formatted that way, and will only store Wii games on there, nothing else.
FAT32 lets you put everthing in normal windows folders, apps, cheat codes, covers, usb loader, the Wii games in a WBFS folder, and any other data you want on there, MP3's, movies, see?
Thats the main reason I switched over and just one partition, FAT32.

Ah, makes sense. Although I don't have anything setup yet. Im still trying to find the right tutorials for my setp. USB Loader GX seems to have the best cover flow view. Thats whats drawing me there.

And on a related note, I'd also like to be able to load backups via the disc channel from a DVD-R with DARKCORP. Can you have both options installed (disc + USB loading) together?

Yes you can have DarkCorp for disk loading as well as more than one USB loader! Also I recommend you get Neo Gamma- a program for disk loading that works when DarkCorp fails to read a disk!

Do all the disc loaders have to be launched from a channel first or will the game just start if its in the drive when the console is powered on?

DarkCorp runs via the disk channel while for Neo Gamma you will need to load the channel/app first!

Well, I've been working with some tutorials and I've definitely made some progress. Unfortunately, a whole new handful of questions have popped up. So here goes...

1) I used Wii Mod Manager to format my 1TB drive to FAT. But, when I open the app and select my drive, it's asking me "do I want to create a WBFS partition?" That's mixing me up a bit. Any thoughts?

2) As for installing my USB Loader (I'm going with GX for now...). I ran USB Loader GX 1.0 Installer, and it created the following folders on my drive:

apps

wad

From the USB Loader GX website, I downloaded the newest loader file: r938.dol. It says to rename this file boot.dol and place in the loader directory in the apps folder. Seems simple enough.

However, I want the loader selectable on the Wii system menu with my Disc Channel but I also eventually want to autoboot to the USB Loader GX and use it as a front-end using Priiloader.

Not sure if should install this as a channel (I have downloaded the r938.wad) or just as a forwarder (which I have a file called USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder.wad). This part has me a little confused as well.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Install the forwarder, that's it.

OK, with some more research, I finaly got everything installed and up and running...for the most part.

I had everything all set but when I loaded the USB Loader GX from my USB hard drive via HBC, it gave me the "No WBFS or FAT32/NTFS Partion Found."

I have a 1TB Hitachi USB 2.0 drive. This drive came formated FAT32. Before I copied all the nesscary loader files to it, I opened it in Wii Backup Manager. It stated that it was a usable drive and only need a WBFS folder. It asked me if I wanted to create it, so I said yes and proceeded.

I thought my drive was all set and ready to go. Now the USB Loader is telling me my partion setup isn't correct.

Any thoughts?

honestly,
try xflak's NUS Autodownloader.
He has step-by-step instructions generated for all USB loading, formatting, etc....

And if you don't happen to like CFG usb loader, just use USB Loader GX instead.
You have nothing to lose at this point

Actualy, I am using it, in part. When you recommended it earlier I tried it but I'm substituting the files I'd rather use in the guide.
