Hi everyone! I just wanted to make a post showing off a little tool I made to get more use out of WiiRadio. :)

Since WiiRadio hasn't been updated in many years and the search functionality is completely deprecated, and the core use of the app is to playback .pls or .m3u files you've already gathered.

The problem is that the Wii can only playback MP3 files with a bitrate of 128 kbps* and a sample rate of 44.1 kHz, over unencrypted http. Most modern internet radio streams don't fit this description.

My tool allows you to transcode any modern internet radio stream into a format the Wii can understand, and host a proxy server from your own PC.

Find a radio station -> drop it in the webui -> put the .pls on your SD card.

Let me know if you have any questions or find any bugs!

*I've gotten some internet radio streams with a lower bitrate to play natively on my Wii, but nothing higher.

Hi @cmyksoda

I wanted to ask if it would be possible for you to add support for controllers like the Wii U GamePad, Wii U Pro Controller, and DualShock 3? Especially the Wii U GamePad, since I could use the headphone jack to listen to radio stations more comfortably.

You can add support for the Wii U Gamepad and Wii U Pro Controller using the Fix94 libraries. The library for the Wii U Gamepad is libwiidrc, and the one for the Wii U Pro Controller is libwupc.

For the DualShock 3, you can use the Xerpi library, libsicksaxis. (I would have liked to provide the links, but according to the community guidelines, I'm still not allowed to post links.)

I wanted to let you know that I created an issue in the vectrexwii GitHub repository a few days ago, and you hadn't seen it.

I would really appreciate it if you could take my recommendations into account.

Cheers.

This is an application that runs on your PC and interacts with WiiRadio. As of now, I haven't done any work on WiiRadio itself, so I won't be adding controller support to it at this time.

In the future I will consider this if I work on Wii homebrew forked from WiiRadio or adjacent to it.
