In short, a friend lent me a Ryu amiibo, to level it up in Turbo mode. Level 50, sent it back to play in regular Smash (we know nothing notable would happen in vanilla Smash)
and the amiibo reset and won't save data. Also, it sets the name as Ryu.amb.
We think .amb is a file extension for amiibo.
So has this happened to anyone else?

Hasn't happened to me, but if a rom hack could mess with an amiibo like that, could we make a 3ds app to modify amiibo figures data like it's level? Maybe it's even possible to switch a Ryu.amb for Peach.amb and switch the figure entirely.

The amiibo most likely corrupted. Try using it on another game so it can reset the amiibo.

No, part of the Amiibo data is read only.

Well, some things have to be able to be written to, right? Saving amiibo data in Smash, for example.
Unless you were talking about switching the files entirely.
I meant switching out the Amiibo. Editing the savedata is possible since we know how to decrypt and encrypt Amiibos.
