The anthem was written during the Japanese invasion (part of the second world war) before the communist takeover and are anti imperialist - not pro communist

In fact, because of what you mention, the song was censored, changed and even replaced over the years by the ccp. Now china uses the original version again with major reforms since the 80s/90s and ending of the cultural revolution, but the lyrics were in some times deemed to be too revolutionary and elites in the ccp were afraid of the song
