Personally, I love my 3DS. I bought it at full price, knowing said price would drop later, because I really wanted the system. The free games were just a bonus for me, honestly. And I play them all the time.

So... yeah. Consider me part of the group heartily answering "no" to your original question.

Okay, well hear my reasoning, while it may sound silly it's just my opinion.
Well for one, when loyal nintendo fans were first out to buy the system, it was valued at around 300$
A well kept system, while used, if kept in great condition, within only a little over a years time, if the system is still being sold for the same value as when it was released
it should be still worth the same amount in value.
Nintendo on the other hand, after 6 months time, cut the systems value in half, thereby everyone that bought it before hand has now lost half the value in something
they paid money for gone straight to the hands of nintendo.
Nintendo in response gives us 20 free games, that not only have gone down in value over the years due to being outdated to make up for the loss that we paid for,
but in reality it was to shut us up and make sure they didn't lose loyal customers.
While I do think free of charge for a system upgrade is unrealistic, I think it would compensate for the 150$ in value you already have for a well kept system
but will also compensate for the price difference we originally paid for. While its an upgrade, it is NOT a difference in hardware, because it's the same exact system, just bigger screens, which is what I wanted from the beginning. This is just my opinion, just thought i'd share if to see if fellow members agreed or not.
when did the 3ds EVER get sold for 300???
it was sold for 259 MAX
if you got yours for 300, you got scammed.

My god. I'm an ambassador and even I think its a horrible idea. Why the hell do you deserve a brand new console when we already got 80$ in games (actually from, orginal retail price we got over 1000$ in games, but that's besides the point.) shut up about this shit. If you didn't think it was worth 250 then you shouldn't have bough it. I got the early content I wanted so I'm more then happy.

My best friend paid five hundred and ninety nine us dollars for his Playstation 3 at launch!

When they dropped the price, he didn't even get free games for it :(

When new products come out, you must make a decision: Is this worth the money? If yes, then buy it, enjoy it, and don't expect any pity when the price drops. Because, one day, eventually, the price will drop.

Early adopters always get screwed, even way back when. They always throw caution to the wind and buy the next best thing as soon as it comes out knowing that eventually it will be replaced or upgraded. Allot of people who bought nes's back in the day got screwed when the ZIF pins started not working as intended and they released the toploader. Early ps1 ps2 and ps3 adopters were screwed when they released the slim versions for less money then the originals were. Gba buyers were screwed when the gba sp and micro came out ds users were screwed with the ds lite (which I ended up HAVING to upgrade too due the the ds hinge issue) then screwed again with the dsi and then screwed one final time with the launch of the dsi xl. Iphone/ipad users get screwed over every year pretty much. When you buy something you should know that down the line something better and cheaper is going to come out.

TLDR: This always happens and your a fool if you didn't see it coming

Ok ok ok, so basically the early adopters should get better treatment than the others? Get your head back from the clouds. You took a risk buying it at 300$. A redesign is ALWAYS (well if we're talking about Ninty's history) inevitable for handheld consoles and you should have known better.
And this is exactly why I didn't buy it at launch. Because the price was too high for me, and the launch games didn't interest me.
After that, Nintendo decided to drop the price early, and for apologizing the early adopters you get 20 FREE GAMES! 10 of 'em which will not be released to the public.

Logically and buissness-wise, this sounds like a bad idea. But in my imagination, it sounds like the best idea since bread! (For all you non-ambassadors, you probably don't agree with my imagination, hmm! IDC BFYWC!!

Well for one, when loyal Apple fans were first out to buy the iPhone, it was valued at around 600$
A well kept iPhone, while used, if kept in great condition, within only a little over a years time, if the system is still being sold for the same value as when it was released
it should be still worth the same amount in value.
Apple on the other hand, after 12 months time, cut the systems value in half, thereby everyone that bought it before hand has now lost half the value in something

Apple in response gives us othing
