Maybe you need time playing it with the right expectaction (its not a open world!). I hope you can enjoy it!

This. And even then, Dark Souls 2 >>>>>>>>>> Most games in existence - especially if we consider the incredible DLC. Also, I think Dark Souls 3 = Dark Souls 1, or at least they have different strengths and weaknesses between them.

As for OT, I know this is a bit too late now, but I once too couldn't "get" Dark Souls. I had played Demon's Souls all the way back on PS3, and had given up at the Tower of Latria. But it hadn't "clicked" with me. Then I bought DS1 on XBOX 360, wandered around until I ended up in the catacombs, found it utterly depressing and difficult and gave up. Didn't click then either. Made a couple of half-assed attempts again and again; didn't click either.

Then, after giving up for many years, I purchased the Dark Souls remastered on Playstation 4 for my PS4 Pro. Started playing, and didn't put the controller down until I logged well over 100 hours, conquering the game. Then did DS2 and DS3 back to back. I even returned to Demon's Souls on PS3 and finished that too. Something had clicked. I now consider this game series probably one of the best game series of all time. DS1 in particular is probably among my top-10 favourite games of all time as well.

Bought a PS5 only to play the Demon's Souls remake. Ratchet and Clank is another option, but really, there is nothing on the horizon for me for the system other than Elden Ring.
