Ok guys I need some help. I think my dad is watching my computer somehow like thru a tracker or something. I haven't found any traces of programs at all though. This happened to a friend of mine awhile sgo and it was hard to find on his computer. If something is installed would the programs folder have to be in program files or could it be hidden or something? Does there necessarily have to be a program for him to watch? So essentially I'm asking a way to figure out if he's watching or not, suggestions? Thanks.

Check the Processes tab in the Task Manager, Installed Programs via control panel, and the system tray for anything suspicious or abnormal.

If you have an anti-virus, check the "Exceptions" or "Trusted Programs" for anything suspicious there as well.

The installed program could be anywhere, the default for the majority of installers just happens to be Program Files.

If you really want to use your computer safely, wait until your dad is asleep, backup all your important files, and reformat your hard drive. Make up a virus excuse or something.

You can always lure him in a trap. Set up camera, have porn running, see if he runs out trying to catch you, then show mom the cut portion of the video tape of dad in front of a computer with porn.

This isn't Lie to Me. You're not gonna be able to see twitches. Think of someway to actually contribute to the topic before posting.

On topic: If none of the other things work, you could just mess with your dad. If he's monitoring your history, throw in a single page of the most wtf porn you can find,

Not to mention, If the computer is close to a room, it's pretty easy to run a svideo cord from the computer to a TV through the wall. It may not be a specific program, but the desktop is cloned to a TV

Use a Linux boot CD, one thats pretty easy to use. Run a virus scan from it.

Also if you use that and keep the CD safe if you do not keep any files on the PC your perfectly safe

Now if he has a fairly expensive router (maybe some cheaper ones too these days) nothing will help you too much as at that point any web pages you go too he can tell by the IP. I mean you could go through a tunnel but that can be looked at and blocked as well.

I know because I used to do this to my kids

Before anyone screams privacy and waahh wahh waahhh.... Kids tend to search for stupid crap online and some of it is not legal.... and since they do not listen when you say "No do not do that online you can get caught and get into trouble or worse yet get me into trouble"
I had a nice long list of blocked terms and web pages at one point.
I am sure the computers where a lot less fun to use and at the same time I am also sure they went to a friends house to use the computers there. But what ever all I can do is control what happens under my roof.

Thanks guys for the suggestions, I'll look into them tomorrow. I've tried the processes thing before, but I have no idea what they all are haha.

Login to the router. It usually the default gateway if not just look up that model online to see and the username and password by default are normally admin:admin or admin:password admin:just blank dont type anything.
