What's so great about this though? I would take AKAIO over this new firmware any day unless I am missing something.

The third party loaders just add some features like cheat.dat support and UI alterations, all around the first party code that actually manage loading the roms and so forth, the real nuts and bolts of the Acekard. First party updates aren't about adding frills to the OS--they're about improved compatibility and bug fixes. Although it would be nice if AK could be arsed to look into adding some features like save states.

I'm just not sure to what extent the loaders like AKAIO add on to it and what kind of work would be involved to update at this point. If it's tantamount to linking a dll file, then by all means I hope we get a revision. If it has to be coded around the new release, they'll probably just gear 1.2 toward it.

It is an alternative. This loader may be better to run some games than the 4.09 with gelu's fixes of the AKAIO or gelu's custom firmware.

Actually, AKAIO Team (specially gelu) improves the loader too (DQ5 fix, Kieta 2 Mai no E fix, soft-reset, etc...).

An update for the RPG.

I want to use this as an external loader with AKAIO but i think the external loader is only for the ak2.

They've done some tinkering with it, like Bliss' loader had a much improved soft reset compatibility. Which only further exasperates the situation of trying to keep up with first party updates if the first party refuses to implement these fixes.
