Who is user Logan on the wiki?

http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php?tit...amp;oldid=22251

@Logan: stop changing the links back. the reason they are hyperlinked the way they are is so we can control what the links say. the way you are doing it makes the links the names of the wiki pages. this is a limitation of using [[internal linking]] of that of [http://whatever.org This is the Site] external linking.

GBATemp's AKAIO ROM Compatibility WIKI
GBATemp's EZ 3in1 WIKI

these are much more descriptive than the way you keep reverting back to. your reverts are a personal preference for a way of linking but you seem to not see the larger picture. the wiki should be as descriptive as possible to minimize any questions that could/will be asked. i have watched as the new user questions have dropped off in both the forum and the irc channel thanks to the wiki. it answers all of the basics and then some. i understand that the links are in the "information" section, regardless, and one would assume that any user in this section would know these links (no matter the title) would take them to more information. but i've found that making assumptions about people, especially the larger population of 12-15yr olds who use flash kits, is a mistake. for that reason vato and myself set out to make the wiki more verbose and descriptive. it works very well in its current state. please post your arguements for using internal linking over that of external. we will discuss it.

You can do this on a Wiki:

[[Name of Internal Page|What You Want to Appear]]

That way you can control what the links say and have internal links. I'm going to change that now.

EDIT: Made the change, check it out and see if you like it AW. Keep in mind that if you still like the old way better than I won't take offense to the revert or something stupid like that.

that works. my arguement is not for one way over the other but to control what the hyperlink says.

cheers!

I had to a wiki page for a class last semester so I learned a bit about wiki syntax. I used that little trick all the time.

wiki syntax
ugh

can't believe schools making people learn that now.

We've gone to the point where we're going to have "how to upload images to facebook" shit instead of true fuckin editing and ftp and all the shit that required fucking knowledge.

When a wiki crashes, all the formatting in the world won't help you make a web page.

HTML, dicks

I wasn't taught anything about wiki syntax, I picked it up from Wikipedia. And I don't disagree with you, I just think wikis make it easier to do the simple tasks w/o learning a ton of stuff. If I had to learn HTML, I would probably never contribute to a wiki, and I doubt many would. The unique and simple syntax is part of the reason wikis are so accessible.

one of my friends is a professor at the local college. he was telling me how one of the teachers put in a request and course description for a "facebook" class. the students will use facebook and learn to develop social networking skills. yea its true, you can't make shit like that up!

You have a lot of information in the wiki but I think you really need to work on the formatting.

Anyone who just wants to quickly set up their Acekard has FAR too much information on a single page! Can't you split the article in multiple pages?

There especially needs to be a page for "quick setup", would've saved me some time and being shouted at by angsty forum users.

agreed

I even get lost in it and I've been around the AK section for a while
possibly the reason why I keep on tripping up on answering questions (good thing AW managed to catch em)

There actually is a quick-setup guide near the top of the wiki.
And, yes, there is lot of information to absorb, because AKAIO has a lot of features to cover. I personally dont see the need to split the wiki into pages. Just use the contents table for reference to find specific info.

breaking up a wiki into multiple pages is more confusing. you have to navigate between pages where they open in _parent. related data is then linked off-page into another area, making it even more confusing. the wiki is designed to document akaio. it does that and it does it well. once you read it over 1-2 times you will know where all of the information is. the table of contents at the top also helps with navigation.

people already can't do the simplest of tasks, like read the quick guide and install akaio on their flash linker. asking them to keep data straight in their heads, which is now found on multiple pages and which refer to information on other pages, will never work. this would also mean that now the linking of data is spread across more than 1 page. so explaining to someone about updating, which involves settings, loaders, quick guide, etc now requires more than 1 link and more than 1 copy/paste of information.

we won't be changing it.

I don't see the point of bringing a page down for maintenance. If you bring it down it just brings your google score down and people who don't know how to cache it go somewhere else..
Modify it, upload the modification and then your done.

I think the cheating system needs to be revamped. I for one, do not understand how to put cheats in there without manually editing the .cc file; and I have not found someone who can help me with this either.

adding cheats to the db has nothing to do with akaio. akaio loads the db, makes cc files for games on your card, and allows cheats to run. if you want info on adding cheats there is a link in the FAQ section of the wiki.
